Never was a fan.  Never will be a fan.  Funny how when I lived in VA, PA and MD it there seemed to be NASCAR fans everywhere.  Now I live in NC and I never see anything about NASCAR except for this Bubba Smollet national story.  Does it still exist?

You live in the wrong part of the state.  It's insanity in Charlotte for obvious reasons, but the amount of fans here are mind boggling.  Between the NASCAR hall of fame, the Coca-Cola 600, and the Charlotte Motor Speedway, it's Ricky Bobby country here.  Dumbest sport ever.  Scratch that....I don't wanna insult sports.  Dumbest entertainment event ever.  However........best people watching of all time.

My dad said he isn't watching it anymore because of the flag crap. I could see if they were banning the American Flag but some stupid flag that has nothing to do with him just makes him as dumb as the sport he doesn't watch anymore lol

I grew up around sprint cars. Still love them to this day. I tried getting into NASCAR back in the mid 90’s, but lost interest after a year or so. In large part because I don’t like stock cars, pavement racing, or race formats that last for 200-500 laps.

My grandparents liked watching NASCAR when they were alive.  My family has a 1952 program from Pocono Raceway somewhere, which we took home from their attic when my grandfather died.  But, I don't watch NASCAR.  I did watch some of it this past Memorial Day weekend, for a little sports fix.

I don't get the concept of stock cars.  These cars are modified so much.  They are not anything like cars coming from a dealership.

I don’t think the allure is so much seeing cars that look like they left the dealership. I believe it’s more about seeing something that is recognizable. Plus, it gives some fans who care about brand loyalty a chance to pick favorites along those lines.

Ha! I don’t recall where I saw my first pair, but I did see a few set at the Vet and Linc when I had season tickets.

Plus, I did see some at a Metallica concert many many years ago lol.

I remember it so well because I would go with my dad and his friends and my uncle had a camper that he parked in the infield all weekend.

So i asked my dad if I can walk to my uncle's camper and watch the race with him. So off I went saw a large crowd of guys surround a truck with a girl dancing and them all chanting " show us your teets show us your teets" next thing you know off came the top....

Then I feel a tap on the shoulder and I turn around and it's my dad he said " you don't need to be seeing this with a grin on his face" lol.

Every race after that I wouldn't even watch the race I would go hunting for boobies lol.

That was always a good time at the Vet too. Girls would flash their boobs then the security would go chasing after them through the 700 level. Then they would finally catch them and escort them out. Then we all would boo the security and chant " arsehole arsehole" it was great times

Nascar is one of those things you have to experience in person to appreciate. Even then after about 10 laps it's boring lol

I don't like the concept of pole positioning (for Nascar or otherwise).  I understand the need to figure out who is in the first row, who is in the second row, and so on.  But, it basically means that the race is kind of just the first 10 cars, and everyone else is just an obstacle.

I would like to see a horse racing-style start, where everyone is on one line and on the start, you gun it to get out in front before the first turn.

It may be more dangerous, but isn't it dangerous with live animals?  It would make the start so much more exciting, and more people would be in the race (at least at the beginning).

How wide do you want the track to be?

Not wide enough to have 42 cars across the track. Also pole position adds strategy to the race and guys in the first 10 hardly ever stay there.

3 cars wide maybe? I don't watch it but definitely not more than 5.

Sometimes they can get 4 I think. I haven't watched it enough in a long time

What you describe is more accurate for dirt racing which is a different format. NASCAR races are so many more laps that there is plenty of opportunity for positions to change whether through actual racing or through efficient pit stops.

Depending on track conditions, dirt racing can end up being a lot of follow the leader type racing, but can also lead to good shows since drivers don’t have pit stops and can’t sand bag for much of the race and save their car until the end.

 reading through this thread gave me a good laugh. All the same stuff you hear from people who never sit down and watch a race, although, all the cars starting next to each other was a new one to me

The pit stops in grand prix turn me off. Gas hose is already out there, jack is built into the car, 4 tire changers already set up over the wall. I like that in nascar, the pit stops are limited to 5 guys over the wall, have to have a jack man lift the car, have to have the gas man carry the can and make rear car adjustments at the same time. And they can still turn out 4 tires and fuel in 13.5 seconds.

Not a fan of Nascar going to 1 lug in the future, but should at least cut down on loose wheels

I had to go to a race for work at Dover - everyone was telling me I'd change my opinion after going to a race.

It blew.

Used to like it.  I went to plenty of races at Dover.

The first race I went to was pretty cool (2003 or 2004). Loved the noise and smells, LOL. And it was something that I did with my Dad, we would always go together, so that was fun.

But then it just got too boring for me.

Same though for Baseball. I can't watch it, haven't in at least 15 years.
