Stationed in the radar shack on the runway, the used to rattle the walls when they took off, and even ear protectors didn't do much. Bet it felt great to be in that seat, though. I can't swear to it, because it's been a lot of years ago now, but I think they used to fly over my house (treetop level), for a short period of time before they were retired back in the early 90's. Same with the A7 Corsair. I can't swear to it, but I think I remember seeing them for a short period of time. Definitely had A6 Intruders and F14's flying overhead for a lot of years before they were retired. Now it's all F-18's (mostly). Occasionally I'll see something different. Saw some French fighters one day (Delta wing fighters). The Navy practices "touch and go's" on a landing strip very close to my home. They're so low when they fly over my roof/yard that you can see the pilot in the cockpit. Spoiler With those jets (and other Navy carrier based planes) frequently flying overhead, there's a lot of noise but you get used to it and eventually don't even hear it unless it's blocking out the TV or a phone conversation. That's the 'negative' of them flying around here, but one 'positive' is that the Navy owns the air rights and won't allow any land development for housing or stores. So where I live is (almost) exactly the way it was when I moved here more than 30 years ago.
June 23, 20232 yr As predicted Families of Titanic sub’s victims could still sue despite liability waivers https://www.yahoo.com/news/analysis-titanic-sub-victims-families-224111875.html Waivers are not always ironclad, and it is not uncommon for judges to reject them if there is evidence of gross negligence or hazards that were not fully disclosed. "If there were aspects of the design or construction of this vessel that were kept from the passengers or it was knowingly operated despite information that it was not suitable for this dive, that would absolutely go against the validity of the waiver,” said personal injury attorney and maritime law expert Matthew D. Shaffer, who is based in Texas.

Azmeh Dawood — the older sister of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood — told NBC News that her nephew, Suleman, informed a relative that he "wasn't very up for it" and felt "terrified" about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. But the 19-year-old ended up going aboard OceanGate's 22-foot submersible because the trip fell over Father's Day weekend and he was eager to please his dad, who was passionate about the lore of the Titanic, according to Azmeh. "I am thinking of Suleman, who is 19, in there, just perhaps gasping for breath ... It's been crippling, to be honest," Azmeh said in a phone interview from the home in Amsterdam she shares with her husband, Jonathan.

Seems like he nailed it and the small community of these people found out almost immediately. Im just saying it doesnt make someone a conspiracy theorist or whatever to question what Oceangate knew and when they knew it. I thought it was ridiculous the way Mike was attacked for just expressing something Id agree with. If they had a pretty good idea the thing imploded during ascent, share that info and be forthcoming. For a number of reasons. What they knew and when they knew it will come out in discovery and litigation for sure. The thread was a guy with tons of experience giving his informed opinion on what happened. But we have pretty clearly established that the guys at Oceangate hired people with very little experience on purpose. You're jumping to conspiracy when stupidity is the much more likely answer.

To me that's Gross Negligence, especially if they didn't tell the customers.

The core issue is the rating of the viewport and if any regular checks of the pressure hull for stress fatigue had been done.

The core issue is the rating of the viewport and if any regular checks of the pressure hull for stress fatigue had been done. Your second point kinda undermines the first one though. The viewport was obviously part of the same vessel that successfully made that dive and others previously too. But just because the submersible survived 5 dives and then failed on the 6th one doesn't mean the hull was necessarily built with the proper materials. As an analogy, if a block of flash memory is rated for 10k read/write cycles, but I use it in an application where I'm planning for 50k read/write cycles, the fact that it might last until 20k cycles doesn't mean it "succeeded" for the application I needed it for. From what Cameron has said, basically nobody in the industry uses carbon fiber as a hull material for any submersibles intended for those depths.
