Ok - they've not even player a pre season game, but based on practice reports and some personal preferences here goes -

Offense - 25

  • QB - 3 - easy one, Hurts, Mariota and McKee. Last cut - Book
  • RB  - 4 - surprise here, Swift, Gainwell, Penny, and Sermon. Last cut - Scott
  • WR - 5 - they go chalk, AJ, Smith, Watkins, Zaccheaus, Covey - Last cut Ngata
  • TE - 4-  no surprises here, Goedert, Stoll, Calcaterra. Last cut Jackson.
  • OL starters - 5-  no brainer, Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Jurgens, Johnson
  • OL backups  - 4 - Driscoll, Steen, Andrews, Stills. Last cut Opeta

Defense - 25

  • DE - 5  - a surprise in this gtroup because I can't se the guy who gets cut on the tesm, BG, Sweat, Riddick, Smith, Robinson. Last cut Barnett
  • DT - 4 - go light to make room elsewhere, Fletch, Carter, Davis, Williams. Good players getting cut - Tuipolotu, Ojomo, Street
  • LB - 6 - need special team contributions, Dean, Jack, Cunningham , Elliss, Bradley, Kyron Johnson. Last cut - Patrick Johnson, Van Summeran
  • CB - 6 - to much talent to keep 5, Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, Jobe, McPhereson, Ringo. Last cut - Garner

I don't know about Scott getting cut. I would t be surprised but team  knows what he can do and would be easier to keep him and stash Semon on the PS.

Would t be surprised if Ngata sneaks onto the roster somehow .

At TE Jackson is currently ahead of calcaterra on the depth chart so may be something to watch.

At DE no reason to keep Robinson, the guy is super Raw and guys like Tui and Ojoma are having far better camps and are better players, I can't see any way they go light at DT.

At LB I can't see them keeping 6, I think they cut Jack who doesn't play teams and keep 5.

DBs are pretty clear cut.

Bradley is hurt.  Could be out for the year.  So that creates space on the roster for another LB maybe.

Dennis Kelly is going to be on the team.

Tyrie Cleveland looked really good last night.  So did Greg Ward.  I am not sure why everyone assumes Ngata is ahead of them.

I wouldn't be surpised if they kept 5 RBs, but that seems unlikely.  I agree that Scott couold be on the outside looking in.

After last night's game, it looks like Justin Evans at S is Practice Squad candidate material.  So is CB Ricks.  But there is a long way to go...

Way too early for a thread. You are right.

He started a new topic every 3 weeks last regular season predicting free agency decisions months in advance I'm amazed he waited this long for preseason roster

No way in hell am I cutting Boston Scott.

Yeah I’m not on the Trey Sermon train. Feels like they’re trying to use him in a lot of places in hopes he can catch on, but Scott has already been doing the things they’re trying to do with him well already.

Covey is a better  punt return option than Ward.

Neither one is any good but at least Ward can play WR if needed. Covey’s stats are a little skewed - he had one good game against Tenn. which accounted for more than 1/3 of his punt return yardage. Otherwise, he either fair catches just about everything or gains a fews yards and gets tackled.

Every year fans get hype about some 4th or 5th string RB who ends up on the PS or cut.

QB (3): Hurts, Mariota, McKee. I am a better QB than Ian Book.

RB (4): Swift, Penny, Gainwell and Scott. They gave Scott over $1mm guaranteed, and they know him. Sermon hopefully sneaks to the PS.

WR (5): Brown, Smith, Watkins, Zaccheus, Covey. Everyone gets hyped about the longshot WRs every camp, but a couple of them will clear waivers.

TE (3): Goedert, Stoll and Calcaterra. No surprises here.

OL (9): Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Jurgens, Johnson, Steen, Sills, Andrews, Driscoll. Sills being cleared spells the end of Opeta, who likely ends up on the PS.

Total Offense: 24

DE (3): Sweat, Graham, Barnett. Barnett's contract restructure guaranteed his spot.

DT (6): Cox, Davis, Williams, Carter, Ojomo, Tuipoloto. Can't cut any of these guys, and we went 6 deep at DT last year.

SLB (3):  Reddick, Smith, P. Johnson. I want to keep K. Johnson for ST, but just no room.

ILB (4): Dean, Morrow, Jack, Ellis. Before this game, I thought Morrow was in trouble. Now, looks like he is set and Cunningham is gone.

CB (6): Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, Jobe, McPhearson, Ringo. Gotta hope Ricks makes it to the PS.

S (4): Blankenship, Edmunds, Brown, Wallace. I'd consider cutting Wallace to keep Ricks, because I think better chance K'Von clears waivers. But I think team keeps him.

Total Defense: 26

Lovato, Siposs, Elliott

Notes and Questions on your statement above....

QB-      Why would they keep more than 2?  No question that Jalen Hurts remains the starter for the entire season (no injuries this year). The thought is that Mariota is a lock for number 2 but you never know with GM Howie Roseman he might cut Mariota/trade and keep McKee. Book it that Book is a camp arm only.

I would be really shocked if the Philadelphia Eagles went into week 1 of the regular season with more than two QBs on the depth chart.

2- Jalen Hurts, Marcus Mariota

-------------------------

RB-      Honestly the hardest thing to predict on guessing the Eagles starting Depth Chart. Definetly a running back by committee maybe never a true #1 RB in this depth chart but rather roating out during the game. That being said somebody has to be #1 so we will go with the majority and say D'Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell #2, Rashaad Penny #3 and they probably will keep the NY Giant killer with Boston Scott. Yep why not keep all 4 RBs on a team that loves to run?
Sorry Trey Sermon, you was playing a lot in the first PreSeason game because they are trying to make him look good maybe for a trade. Of course still two weeks of Preseason so maybe he can prove them wrong.

4-  Swift, Gainwell, Penny, Scott

--------------------------

WR-     Outside WR - AJ Brown  & Smity- No question to who the outside WRs are and they will start and play as much as possible however the slot WR is up for the taking and a lot of guys are making it hard to guess. It's not a given that its Quez. It could be Joseph Ngata (who will most likely be a backup to AJ Brown if he makes the cut) or Johnny King (cool sounding name), J. Haselwood, or Zaccheaus whom the Eagles signed because they are doubtful on Quez this year. Brian Covey was the ST guy last year does he make the cut this year?

6- Brown, Smith, Watkins, Zaccheaus, Ngata, Covey

---------------------

TE-   I feel as if the top 3 are locked in pretty solid leaving only the fourth TE spot up for debate I went with the rookie despite being 4 inches shorter than the others.

4-  Dallas Goedert, Jack Stoll, Grant Calcaterra, and Brady Russell

--------------------------

OL-    I have total faith in Jeff Stoutland I am sure who ever he has starting has earned it and will destroy the opponets that being said I assume it is future HOF Kelce at Center, RT - Lane Johnson, and LT - Jordan Mailata, LG Dickerson leaving on the RG position up for debate but it appears Cma Jurgens will start this season at that role.

9 Jason Kelce C, LG Landon Dickerson, RG- Cam Jurgens, RT- Lane Johnson, LT-Mailata, backups-Jack Driscoll, Tyler Steen, Sua Opeta, Brett Toth

25 total offense leaving 28  (*2 extra not active)

------------------

Defense

DL-     The Veterans I feel remain the starters with one difference Jalen Carter.  The thought is Jalen Carter is Jordon Davis back up to start the game but based on the one and only preseason play I wonder if he gets the start over Davis.

9 LDE Brandon Graham, LDT Fletcher COX, RDT- Jalen Carter, RDE Josh Sweat backups- Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Tarron Jackson, Derek Barnett, and Marion Tupulotu

LB-     I still feel that Nakoe Dean is not only the leader of this pack but the number 1 talented LB in skill other than Reddicks ability to get after the QB.

6- MILB Nakobe Dean backup Myles Jack, WOLB- Nick Morrow, backup-Zach Cunningham and of course SOLB Haason Reddick backup Nolan Smith

CB- I agree but I would even make it 7 corners to keep this year.

7- LCB- Darius Slay backup Josh Jobe and Eli Ricks, RCB-James Bradberry, backup- Kelee Ringo
Nickel CB- Avonte Maddox backup- Zech McPhearson

Safety - It would seem that Reed has done enough to prove himself the starter at Free Safety and Sydney Brown keeps killing it in Preseason he might take that slot though if not one of them starts at Strong Safety.

3-  Reed Blankenship backup Sydney Brown, SS Terrell Edmunds

25 Total Defense leaving 3 (plus 2 extra non-active)

-----------------------

Special Teams

the last 3

Kicker - Jake Elliot

Punter - Arryn Siposs

LS- Rick Lovato

-----------------------

You packed alot in there -

  • I think after SF's issues 3 QB's make sense
  • RB - you went withthe chalk, I went withthe surprise and the better player
  • WR - I;d love to keep Ngata but I don't think there is roster room for him
  • TE - I f'd up my list. I have 4 there but only list 3. I think it'll be 3 which makes troom for Ngata
  • OL - Toth proved he can't be a center and Andrews can. They kept Sills for a reason last year and he'll cost less than Opeta.
  • DL - I think you've gone for the known guys. Robinson is younger than Barnett. Tuipolotu isn't a keeper in my eyse - we'll see. You might be right about keeping 10 since Bradley is down.
  • LB - I don't think Morrow makesw the team.
  • CB is loaded - I like your picks and wish there was room for Garner
  • S - I never saw a team keep only 3 safeties. Don't think I;ll see it this year.
  • ST - I still believe our punter isn't here yet - Matt Araiza is still out there and he's been cleared of the crinimal charger against him.

Good read - thanks

SanFransico 49ers have the most problems at QB (especially last season) than I can remember in a long time. I think Jalen is such a tough player much like RT Lane Johnson that I don't think the Eagles really need to have three QBs on the active roster.  Don't forget Greg Ward Jr. used to play QB at Houston and converted to WR after going undrafted in college. He can be the 3rd if they keep him as at WR as a backup. (Of course I didn't have him in the list of making the final cut but Howie will probably keep him one last season). He did leave the preseason game with leg cramps, and not sure if he is injured.

One thing is for sure when I started to type this up I thought wow how hard ii was for me to picks some of this guys. it must be incredibly hard for the coaches (which is a good thing - you always want so much talent on the bench that you have a hard time chosing). It shows great depth on the team because you never know when the injury bug will hit.

I enjoyed reading yours as well.
