Weekly line thread: Eagles -4.5 at Patriots

Recommended Posts

Fellow degenerates rejoice!  Football - and all the spreads, totals, parlays and props that come with it - is back!

Eagles open as 4.5 point road favorites with a total of 45 up in lovely New England (fun fact: Gillette Stadium is closer to Providence than Boston. Visiting teams fly into PVD and stay there, then bus up on game day. One of the few truly regional teams/fan bases in the game).

All these opening lines are likely to move a little, but not a lot, between now and game time.

Line: Eagles -4.5 at  Patriots
Total: 45
Moneyline: Eagles -210/Patriots +180

Let's Fing goooo! Can't wait to beat them while Brady is in the house

That being said, I bet this will drop to -3 before kickoff

A drop that far would be a bit shocking given that the memory of us barely losing to the Chiefs in the big game should still be fresh in everyone's mind.

I'm not really impressed with the Patriots offense.  I can't see them scoring more than 17 pts.

On the other hand, I think the Eagles should easily be able to get 3 touchdowns.  Plus, Eliot is always good for a field goal or 2.

Some downward pressure as the line has moved to -4 at most books.

I have zero sense of the Patriots, but regardless, the Eagles struggled as road favorites last season (2-5 ATS).
Pass.

I'll be at this game with my son repping full eagles green.  Last Eagles Pats game I was at was during their "undefeated" season where we almost beat them with AJ Feely at the helm.  Assante Samuel caught and returned a pick six to win the game for them...brutal.  Eagles were like 24 point underdogs in that game and I wanted to get paid!

I've been waiting a long time for this payback.  Birds need to deliver Sunday!

The Patriots are a tough call, their offense stunk last year but ours would too if we put Fat Patricia in charge of it (and we complained at Castillo), O'Brien is a good OC.

Their receivers are a mix of guys that are WR2-3 level but pundits always talk like they're about to rediscover the form of that one really good year they had in Smith-Schuster and Devante Parker and late round rookies like Boutte and Douglas.

Their O-line improved as the season went on last season but was never great (and how much of it was down to the offense becoming a dink and dunk less than 6 yards a pass game is open to question), Cole Strange looked to be a weak link in his rookie year, especially when their starting Center got injured. Their defense had 2 players over 10 sacks last year and will give our O Line a decent workout

It's a decent test for the first game up, especially if our offense is knocking rust off following another light duty pre season.

We'll win, but it might be a squeaker rather than a blow out.

My only concern in this game is that their defense is pretty good. And defense tends to start a little better early in the year.

They're pretty banged up already I hear.

I know people have been dismissing it, but Super Bowl losing teams do tend to come out of the gate slow.

I just want to come away with a win. I expect us to look a little rusty.

That's a low sample size trend. Most SB teams are old vets on a last hurrah, or best players leaving for huge contracts, Von Miller rental pieces going somewhere else, or QBs riding off into the sunset.

If you look at this team and the individual players they are the opposite of those teams.

Jordan Davis is in the best shape of his life.

Milton Williams is ready to explode...

AJ Brown is still a beast and DeVonta Smith looks ready for beast level as well.

etc etc

If this team lost Slay and Bradberry and Graham then sure, hangover. They did not.

They lost replaceable Marcus Epps types and reloaded with an incredible draft.

New England looks more like a rusty team going into this game with a shoddy and injured O-line, no real QB, Parker is out, Jones is out, etc.

NE also can't really handle mobile QBs.

There was a SB hangover team this week. Their fans were all doing the chop on Thursday night.

Their 3rd best player was in a skybox with his agents because of SB enhanced greed.

I hope you are right! Certainly Hurts and Siriani seem focused and set for it.

Really low scoring so far this week well into the 3rd quarters ... I think the lack of starter's play among most teams is keeping the Defenses ahead this week. I don't really expect the Eagles Offense to come out firing ... like most teams I think we are likely to see a low scoring game.
