Eagles may have found some help in the secondary, and no, it's not Budda Baker who some have hoped for - but who is not likely to come to the team for compensation and cap reasons.

Some were complaining that these screenshots are unlinked, but for some reason, Twitter posts aren't fully embedding onto the boards at the moment, so I'll post the screenshot and the link.

Another corner made of glass, sounds like a Howie special...😒

What exactly is the downside if he's signed for a low figure?  You make Howie sound like the village idiot - he is not and you know he is not.

Historically Howie signs oft injured players cuz they're cheap and as you've stated low downside.

Just stating a fact

Read into that what you will.

You mean like trading for DeAndre Swift?

Well, so far, this guy hasn't been signed, but apparently the team did sign a lesser known name to the PS

Oh Yeh. The cousin of the Baltimore QB. I wonder...

Meh it’s about a bit of depth with Maddox out. But aren’t these guys outside corners? Which is a perhaps concerning regarding Bradberry?

During camp Bradbury was used a lot inside like a hybrid linebacker. He’s probably going to take more reps just as a slot guy. With that being the case they kept so many defensive backs as it is. Why did they keep so many of these guys if they don’t trust them?

Yup, and lots of othes.

If a player has a recent or established Injury history Howie is more likely to take a chance on them, as those types usually come a bit cheaper.

Problem arises when those players get hurt.

Hopefully they will have lady luck on their side and guys like swift stay healthy.

We have 3 starting CBs. Their ages are 32, 30, and 27 with the 27 year old always struggling to stay healthy. We kept guys to develop, knowing that if they were released, another team would claim them. That is why we kept so many. Injuries provide opportunities for these guys to play, but they aren't always as far along as would be prudent. Goodrich was activated last week mainly to play special teams, but the Maddox injury changed that. Jobe started for Bradberry and Ricks was active for depth on the outside.

This was just an unusual year where the primary backup (McPhearson) at slot was injured before the starter. I think the team had hoped Maddox would get more than 1.5 games in before being done for the year which would have given Goodrich more time to develop as a reserve. I would imagine Goodrich is now getting practice snaps with the 1st team which should help him be more prepared for the role in the next game. If Bradberry is healthy, that will give them an option if Goodrich looks bad.

Overall they have spent too much of their roster on guys who they don’t think are ready to play and it’s leaving an unbalanced roster. Not enough inside linebackers. Too many Dbacks and D tackles. Only 4 wide receivers. These guys can either play of they can’t. Adding more to an overstocked position because they don’t trust they guys they kept is an issue.

It's 5 WRs now, just like last year. Covey was on the PS to begin the season while they had a surplus at other positions. Even while he was on the PS, he was elevated on game days and was here for WR if needed. Had another team claimed him from our PS, we had Greg Ward who can fill the same role if needed. So WR is identical to last season.

Too many DBs? In just our second game we were without Blankenship and Bradberry and then Maddox got hurt. Even before the season, our backup slot CB was lost for the season. Our other starting safety has an extensive injury history. Goodrich was active for week 2 if needed, but that need wasn't expected and he wasn't getting 1st team reps to prepare for the game. Now he will and we'll see how he does in his first start.

As for ILBs, Bradley was lost in preseason and probably would have been Dean's backup. Cunningham has experience on the inside. Morrow filled in Thursday and was solid.

I don't see any reason to panic. We kept some young guys that impressed in preseason and exposed a couple other players by releasing them and adding them to the PS. So far, we haven't lost anybody critical and didn't lose any promising young players like we did when we exposed Toohill. What I like about Howie is he isn't just thinking about this year with no regard for the future. He tries to find guys like Mailata, TJ Edwards, Blankenship, etc... that might develop into future starters. That won't happen if you don't keep them around to develop. They don't always pan out --- last year he kept Book and Sermon on the 53 and neither made this year's 53. But you can't stop trying to plan ahead.

I’d prefer Bradberry to stay on the outside but I guess we may have no choice.

I think they kept these guys as a lot of them are young and they want to see how they develop? But they knew they didn’t have a great chance of getting them to the PS?

I didn’t waste my time reading your garbage after you wrote Covey was a wide receiver. Yeah they used that guy as a receiver so often in the past right!?! Also if guys are on the practice squad (like Ward) can’t they too be snatched up just like all of these other guys Howie is trying to protect, but isn’t sure if they can actually play?🙄

How many teams have so many guys on the roster that they don’t feel are ready to play? How certain are they that these guys can’t stay on the practice squad? Also why are they so certain a team won’t snatch up one of their stash guys on the PS like Ward? They know at least that guy can play in nfl games. Who trades for a TE that isn’t even close to ready to be on the field yet? The Eagles are hoping these guys pan out. None of them are a certainty. They’re also hoping to go cheap here. You know how they fix their older guys in the secondary problem? Use some higher picks on drafting players, because most of the corners drafted in the first these days are plug in and play.

In Ward's case, I believe since he's a vested veteran, he would only leave the practice squad if he chose to sign with another team. In other words, I don't think he can be "claimed" by a team, but can negotiate with any team as if he is a FA. My guess is he wants to be a part of this team even if it means staying on the PS.

All teams have guys that they invested in to develop that haven't warranted playing time yet. That's why the rule of thumb in the NFL world is that draft picks need about 3 years to fully grade / evaluate. As for our DTs, all of them except Ojomo have played in games this season. All of our DBs have played. So it's not like Ian Book. I think the problem with Albert Okwuegbunam is that he was a late addition and didn't get a chance to learn the offense in TC or preseason. There also is no chemistry with anybody on this team yet. Barring injury, I doubt we'll see him suit up anytime soon. He's the most likely guy to become this year's Ian Book.
