October 10, 20231 yr Author The stuff coming out from this event is unbelievably horrible. Obviously, war is always hell but this seems to be right up there with the worst of the worst. If the aim was to get the world's attention then I'd have to say mission accomplished. Hamas needs to be dealt with once and for all and then hopefully a way forward for the Palestinian people can be sorted out.

As long as one person is willing to use terror tactics, it will go on and on. There is no way to deal with any of them once and for all.

I'd say at this point Israel is going to topple the Palestinian government and permanently occupy Gaza and the West Bank. The U.S. ad EU should stop recognizing the Palestinian State. The 2 state solution is dead.

October 10, 20231 yr If recent history is any indication, most of the world will initially support Israel, then after around a week, the UN, Western European nations, and the U.S. will be calling for restraint and a cease fire. You can pretty much set your clock to it.

What news outlet is trustworthy wrt accurately representing the UN, Western Europe and US positions, in your opinion?

It can essentially be knocked out to the point that it will take years to gain back a level of strength capable of sustained action. It's really hard to come to terms with what they could have possibly been hoping to accomplish here. I've been trying to dispassionately comb out a strategy for a few days and I just don't see it. I think they just wanted to kill a bunch of people or get to paradise trying - dooming a bunch of their own in the process along with any likely hope of an independent Palestine. Maybe some outside influences goaded them into for their own purposes?

I'm reading stuff now that just seems to be on another level even for terrorists. Its off the charts.

That said, I already saw reasonable confirmation of things I was skeptical about because I thought were beyond the pale, even for Hamas.

That will go one for as long as there are people willing to do terrible things.
