No, but what they did do was beep the person, wait a couple of seconds for that person to look at the beeper, and then detonated it

Companies issued them back then.  I was working at Verizon mid 90s and we all had Motorola pagers and messaged each other all over the 10-story building all day.

Very graphic video of the causalities 

Here is some footage of the second round of explosions, at least one of which happened at a funeral today.  Not only has this operation taken out numerous fighters, it also disabled their means of communication.  I wouldn't want to be on the Hezbollah end of the next round of hostilities with Israel.
