This is what happens when people who are too young to have lived through a historical event only read about it in passing instead of being immersed in what actually happened.

November 16, 20231 yr And to be perfectly clear, I couldn't be happier that POS is dead. I sat on the edge of my bed on the night of May 2nd, 2011, watching the announcement that we killed him. It was justice served and a reminder to anyone else that it might take us almost 10 years, but if you F with us, we will absolutely find you and put an end to your existence if you try to attack us like that again. FAFO has been our nation's motto since 1776. My first post in CVON was in response to a thread where some limp-wristed loser was admonishing others for cheering on the death of another human being. Yea, F that guy, whoever he was. Bin Laden deserved to die, and nothing will ever change my mind on the matter.

Now on MSNBC this a.m. Joe Scarborough was saying these folks are re-evaluating the Osama Bin Laden letter and taking his side. Sick and twisted logic. There is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas or the USA and Al Qaida. Who runs TikTok again? Oh yeah, China

Osama bin Laden’s ‘Letter to America’ Goes Viral 21 Years Later — on TikTok As a famous @dril tweet noted of the terrorist group ISIS, "You do not, under any circumstances, ‘gotta hand it to them.'” Yet amid the continuing horrors of the war between Israel and Hamas militants, as people struggle to make sense of the violence and escalating rhetoric, more than a few people are willing to give al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden credit for his 2002 polemic against the United States, published as an explanation of the ideology that led him to orchestrate the attacks of 9/11. "I need everyone to stop what they’re doing right now and go read — it’s literally two pages — go read ‘A Letter to America,'” said TikTok user Lynette Adkins in a video posted to the platform on Tuesday, referring to the title often given to the text by bin Laden. "Come back here and let me know what you think. Because I feel like I’m going through like an existential crisis right now, and a lot of people are. So I just need someone else to be feeling this too.” This is literally the result of leftist ideology. Congratulations on the monster you created.

November 16, 20231 yr 11 hours ago, TEW said: this is what you said: If you are shelling civilian neighborhoods, you are going to kill a lot of civilians and destroy a lot of people’s homes. This is counter productive. It makes the civilian population hate you. Obviously there will be collateral damage in war. No one denies that. It’s tragic, but a part of war. But having rules of engagement that direct you to use mortars, artillery, CAS, etc. against insurgent mortar teams in civilian neighborhoods is counterproductive. If you actually want to win, you need a multi-generational effort to win hearts and minds. Killing people’s sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and neighbors doesn’t do that. Destroying people’s homes and lives doesn’t do that. This is precisely why counter insurgency is so difficult. Surely you understand this? Take for example to first two phases of the manual you cited: shape and clear. How do you think shaping and clearing operations are conducted, exactly? The issue isn’t that collateral damage as a result of military operations happens. It’s what happens after the military operations have been conducted. An analysis of failed counter insurgency operations shows that it is the lack of holding and building areas that leads to the failures, and that repeated operations to shape and clear without the holding and building phases is the failure point. As an example, within the manual you cited, the ROE section makes no mention of any of the points you are trying to make. The difficulty in counterinsurgency is the inability of conventional forces to adapt tactical and strategic decision making to the political and sociological processes involved in counter insurgency, namely the holding and building phases outlined, not of collateral damage. 6 hours ago, Toastrel said: I am not doubting there were lots of them. Legal to posses does not mean, as you pretend, that every Iraqi house had one. I can't believe I need to explain this. Iraq has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, and has for some time.

November 16, 20231 yr Thanks but we don’t need a radical anything. The decision to pursue or not pursue a cease fire needs to be made in a deliberate, rational manner to ensure what’s best for the greater good. I understand and believe that each innocent life lost is a tragedy but just because something is tragic doesn’t means it’s unnecessary. This situation is a mess and getting to a place where both Palestinians and Israelis can safely pursue their lives is going to be extremely difficult and unpleasant. The world can’t ‘kumbaya’ its way out of this mess.
November 16, 20231 yr There should not be talk of a cease fire until Hamas releases every single hostage.
