Hurts has to get faster with his progressions......he rarely gets to the 3rd read before the protection starts to break down.......that's when he starts to move out of the pocket.

He hast to start getting to his 3rd and 4th reads BEFORE the protection begins to break down.  All of the top passers in the league can do it......but sometimes it takes longer to develop that skill than anything else.

We've all seen him look too long at his first receiver......then to 2nd and then has to get out of the pocket.

He also struggles with anticipation.......like throwing a receiver open.  He waits until the receiver actually has separation.....and sometimes that takes too long and he rushes the pass.

Both of these things can improve but being in his 4th year, he should have already done that......

Is he hurt?  What the hell is wrong with him?  His speed is 75% when he takes off to run after he runs in circles like my two mini dachshunds chasing their tail.

I dunno....i mean has Hurts really been that fast? His speed seems the same to me. Its just that this year there has been much less gaps for him to run through.

Feels like a technique issue. It's more like he's not determining if a read is open sometimes, but rather if they will come open. I feel like these are things he was doing much better last year when...

...Brian Johnson was his QB coach rather than his OC. Very interesting when you think about it. I remember some people were speculating if the change of Brian Johnson actually hit the worst in him no longer being QB coach rather than him being OC.

It was hard to think that was true because his OC choices were so bad, but now it's starting to not seem as crazy.

That being said against the 49ers was ridiculous. They had NO RESPECT FOR HURTS AT ALL. They just sat back there and dared him to run. Was pretty wild. I think what their gameplan was, a crazy as this sounds, was to turn it into a game underneath on both sides of the ball and make us battle in YAC.

Imho people blame Morrow and all that but i think by far the worst play of the game was when Hurts held the ball for 7 seconds and just....took the sack.

That was worse than his self-sack play. You cant even explain it. Why he would not at least try to throw the ball away. Its something u expect from a much lesser QB, its what gets you benched.

Not sure if it's technique but rather psychological........Hurts WANTS to throw to Brown, so he has a tendency to look at him too long...then smith, again looks too long.  The progressions and decisions have to be split second....anything longer and time runs out to get to the 3rd and 4th reads.

If you watch a guy like Aaron Rodgers, his reads are extremely fast and once he sees something he wants, the release is very quick.  Rodgers seems like he gets thru his progessions in a second and a half.

Hurts also may be trying to do too much, which would explain his holding on to the ball too long.  Also i noticed an exchange between him and Johnson on the sideline and Hurts seemed really pissed at him.  May be nothing, but if Hurts is upset at the playcalling, that could also be a factor.  Not using the run game puts all the pressure on the QB and takes pressure off the defense.

Yeah, he's definitely been significantly slower this season - or at least since he sustained the injury.  Part of it could be putting on too much muscle.

A good offense leads to a good defense imho. Im sure a lot of the great stats the 49ers D has comes from them blowing out other teams. We had so many sacks last year because we blew out teams in the second quarter and they had to throw the ball.

All it takes is a loss for frauds to come out. All of a sudden Jalen "hasn’t played well all year” and "struggles with anticipation”? These are clown takes. Or at the very least, you haven’t paid attention to this team and hurts since he’s taken over as the starter.

I think it's pretty clear that Hurts has been much worse this season than last. I think a lot of that is due to the fact that our offense has become much more one-dimensional and we haven't been able to lean on a dominant running game especially over the last handful of games. I think our running game last year masked a lot of Jalen's deficiencies as a passer. He doesn't seem to be making quick reads and getting the ball out as quickly on the year, and we've seen him take some really ugly sacks even when he's had a ton of time in the pocket.

That said, I'm still optimistic about his future. This is only his third full season as a starter, and he'll improve at going through his progressions and getting the ball out quicker with more experience. The kid is clearly a winner and a true leader, and, I know it's a cliché, but he seems like he can will his team to victory at times. He's definitely a rare breed.

The concepts in the passing game suck. We have two top recievers and for long stretches they struggle to get open. It doesn't make sense.

Tired of Hurts fumbling. Maybe in between squats he could work in some damn ball control. I'm also tired of him freaking out inside the pocket. Step up dude and stop rolling right so fast. It looks like Shane made him last year. Freaking Colts keep screwing us after SB

Hurts has been under pressure non-stop these past few games. Our bird-brained OC for some reason didn't come up with any quick, easy, reliable plays for him despite knowing we're going up against the two best pass rushing teams in the NFL.

In the last two games we have faced two of the best pass rush units in the entire NFL. Other teams are allowed to have playmakers, too - Stephon Gilmore, for example, was an absolute menace covering AJ Brown. It´s way too soon to be pushing the panic button, especially as this team has had a brutal run of the schedule. It gets easier now, while DAL and SF have some tough games coming up. I can´t see either of them running the board from now to the end of the regular season. We´re still in the box seat. The doom and gloom around here is unbelievable at times

The problem with Hurts is that he set such a high standard last year and has everyone tuned in to that being normal.  We had never seen him that good before and may never again.  He is still good  He helps the team win, but he isn't Superman this year.

Add:  He also needs helpfrom his playmakers. He is not getting enough of that.

Not a single catch from tight ends last week. I don't care if they were the backups. There's something seriously wrong. This team is burned out.

Maybe he should stop staring at just Brown and Smith

Or maybe those two could stop dropping and fumbling

Not having a bonafide slot receiver has also hurt Jalen.  I know both Goedert and sometimes Brown fulfill that role, but I think it would help a lot if we had a good #3 who could really work the seams in the middle.  Should be a priority in the offseason.

Aside from last night how often have they done either?

C'mon now.

SF has only one tough game the rest of the way... and its home against the Ravens.

And whilst that is a tough game let’s be honest they should win that especially at home. The Ravens are good but I don’t think they are scary.

Yup

I still cant figure out why we are making our 100+ million QB play running back. Someone explain that to me.
