2 more SB plays

AJ TD. Hurts looks right to his first read then looks left to see if AJ has cleared as his 2nd read. TOUCHDOWN

Mahomes laser focus 1 read locks on his outside receiver. Avante says "Not today!"

The Defense was incredible in the SB, but ... can they do it again? We'll see.

Jalen benefitted from that Pick 6 and the strip sack. You know? But can the Defense do that again?

They're gonna need to show me something this year.

Yeah. The team is going to have to out-score their opponent each week if they want to win games. I hope someone tells them before it's too late.

About two years ago I went to a Commanders game in DC. I believe it was a Wentz game and Hurts threw a bomb to Smitty, but he got hurt on the play. Two plays later Smitty came back and caught a one yard TD. Hurts was crazy hyped aster that play and was trying to pump up the Eagles fans there. The crowd went crazy. Hurts can absolutely get hype at times.

Fitz has a career 3.3% interception rate. He's in the high 90's / low 100s, along with Joey Harrington, Josh Freeman, and Elvis Grbac.

The defense has suffered key losses. I don't think the will be as dominant. At this time.

Ironically, we said the same thing during last off-season.

I was never happy about drafting Hurts

But I've always wanted him to prove me wrong.

If he continues to play as well as we know he's capable of playing - the way he did against the Steelers, the Commodes, and especially against KC, then he'll have done it and I'll be happy.

If he reverts to playing the way he did through much of the middle of the season, I'll grind my teeth into little nubs and probably swear a lot.

You mean middle of the season, when he won games and did not turn the ball over? if things like that make you grind your teeth you are going to need a good dentist

This might be Jalen’s most important season as an Eagle. Yes he’s basically accomplished everything, but I still believe that there are doubts out there and perhaps even in the Eagles locker room. Brown has made it known that he wants the ball more. It was obvious last season they had to change the offense from pass first to run first to be successful. Jalen has a valid criticism of taking too long to get rid of the football. Howie has a lot of draft picks. Jalen makes a lot of money. The reality is if Jalen can’t stay consistent, Howie does have the assets to potentially make a change if needed.

Hurts makes "a lot" of money, but Jalen's contract is a total non-issue.  Next season he'll rank at number 17 in regard to his cap number amongst all QB's. Even his 2026 cap hit leaves him outside of the top 15.   He doesn't need to start slinging the ball more and putting up more passing yards and TDs to remain here, nor to justify his deal.

Lastly, I don't believe the offense had to change things around because of Jalen either.  I mean, outside of the Saints game, the defense stunk before the bye. The offense wasn't doing much either as they were still getting into their groove from guys not playing at all in the preseason, plus they also had a few injuries to key guys.  The entire team changed after that bye week.

I love the holds onto the ball gallery of parrots. 🦜

He did not lead the league in time to throw, top 20 QB season in NFL History Lamar Jackson did.

  • Lamar 3.14 (1st team All Pro and deserving MVP (voters went for the narrative and voted feelings for Allen))
  • Hurts 3.13 SB MVP
  • Darnold was 3rd at 3.08 (pro bowl)
  • Fields was 4th at 3.04

Those 4 QBs at 3 seconds + to throw combined for 99 TDs and 22 picks. 4.5 to 1

All 4 of them made the playoffs

Here are all the sub 2.7 second time to throw QBs

  • Tua at 2.42 (His league worst 5.4 air yards per pass was Big 12 football, not NFL)
  • Dalton at 2.55
  • Cooper Rush at 2.55
  • Will Levis at 2.68
  • Jayden Daniels at 2.68  (great year)
  • Aaron Rodgers 2.69
  • Trevor Lawrence 2.69
  • Joe Flacco 2.69

Those guys combined to throw 127 TDs to 64 picks. Just under 2 to 1

1 of 8 of them made the playoffs

You can always get your wish. Jalen can have a quick release and throw lots of screen passes and quick slants.

Go play Madden.

There is more than one factor involved with how long Jalen holds the ball. Probably the biggest one is the effect of running RPOs often. The receivers and Jalen aren't always on the same page and more than once this year, you can see on the film the WRs just jogging their routes because they thought it was a run. Often, those plays are the ones where you will see Jalen roll to the sideline and throw it away. He's trying to give somebody a chance to get open, but they are unaware. On the flip side of that are the plays where he can't pass because a lineman is too far downfield (which usually ends with him sliding for a minimal gain or loss). Another factor is having an O-line that can give him more time. Mostly, though, it's just gameplan --- we simply don't utilize a quick pass offense like many of our opponents. We tend to trust our O-line to give our QB time to throw.

I have to disagree a little on the offense. This offense definitely had issues and that’s why they changed. Can’t expect Barkley to run for 2000 yards a season every year. Changes need to happen. For the record I believe Jalen can develop and evolve, but I do think Jalen’s contract  an issue. It ballon’s to over 26mil in 26 and 36 in 27. Howie is always thinking ahead.

I've already pointed out how his contract isn't an issue. From what I saw, Hurts has a cap hit of $42M in 2027, Josh Allen's cap hit that same year is $58M, and Josh isn't even at #1 - That's Lamar Jackson coming in at $74M!  Keep in mind the cap goes up each year, but Jalen's hit is nothing compared to the 15 or so QB's ahead of him. As it was pointed out in another thread, his '29 cap hit is the one that's an issue, but he'll be extended before then.

Lastly, I don't deny that they had issues, I simply don't think Jalen was the sole problem.  They were rusty as a whole and also had to deal with injuries to Brown, Lane, and Devonta during that 4 week span.  I don't expect Barkley to go for 2k next season, and I don't expect them to rely on the run as much either. Before this past season, Brown was averaging about 1500 yards a season with Hurts. I expect that to happen again, unless Saquon really does go off again - if that's the case, they'd be silly not to let him carry them again.

I’m expecting change and so are you. We are not different in the matter. Was Jalen the sole problem with the passing offense? Likely not, but he is the offensive leader and he does need to be more consistent. His turnovers declined once he stopped throwing so much. He needs to increase his passing effectiveness. If Barkley isn’t running for 2000 production has to come from someplace especially now that this number one defense has lost several players. Just because Jalen isn’t being paid the most money doesn’t mean he isn’t being paid a lot of money nor does it mean that the Eagles won’t move on from him. If Jalen has a mediocre year you don’t think the Eagles would consider replacing him? Remember Howie had a fathead of Wentz on his wall. Very few people on this roster would be considered untouchable. Jalen needs to elevate his game, because the Eagles need him to.

You keep hinting on moving on from Jalen Hurts in several posts....Why? ? ?

Did the Eagles indicate that somehow they are not interested in Hurts? Is it the escalating salary that will be renegotiated in the future...that scares people?

Do we have another prospect worth taking over for Hurts? Probably not.

Lets just be patient on replace Hurts front, unless someone offers us a fortune in the draft, and there is a guy that we like.

Adults can process information.

The information is that Hurts is about to have his 6th different playcaller in 6 years. He may have had 4 in 4 years in college.

He was 2nd in MVP voting (2022) and SB MVP while all this change was happening.

OMG!!!! It took Kellen Moore 4 games and a bye to get on the same page with Hurts and the rest of the team in a league dynamic where they no longer play in preseason!!!! Lets be miserable after a Super Bowl because of the worms in our brains!!!

Note: You can weigh MVP voting however you want but in 2022 Hurts was in a group of 4, Mahomes(winner), Allen, Burrow, and Hurts in that MVP consideration. The grouping may matter more than the 2nd place.

Is there another QB getting drafted or undrafted, coming into camp?

Maybe a veteran. Probably not.

Or, do you guys like the kid we got, Dorian Thompson-Robinson?

Is DTR just here for Scout Team to mimic Jayden Daniels?

Wondering what Howie and the QB factory are up to.

Here is my latest mock draft:

I wouldn't mind trying to get Tyson Bagent from Chicago.  They just brought in a vet, so he's probably getting bumped to #3.  Might be a solid competition for our #2 spot.

Yeah I kind of like that he’s an ultra competitive guy. Mind you he’d likely #3 in Chicago and he’d be #3 here…

He has more game experience than our current #2
