As a passer it might be a position battle. As a football player Hurts is going to win due to his running ability. My heart says a Quarterback should be an excellent passer first and foremost. My head says you can't argue with the offense with Hurts at the helm.

But to me it makes sense for the #2 QB to have a skillset similar to the #1 QB. The backup able to continue with the same playbook as the starter is using seems to make sense. That's why even though I like McKee a lot, he doesn't make sense as Hurts' backup. To play him enough to make him scrumptious trade bait on the other hand .......

To me, that was an ICONIC Super Bowl play and memory. All the crap that was ever put on Hurts was gone- with one great throw. Including MY crap. And the "just call it" was freekin awesome.

Hurts does not put up crazy passing numbers because his team is good so Hurts can't be great. Audibles, power runs, and backbreaking QB runs can't help the team or make him great. Rando NFL fan feelings about passing yards and delusional style points are the true measure of greatness. Scaring the crap out of the D and forcing them to focus less on Saquon, DeVonta, and AJ... nah, give me 300 yard passing games!

Burrow plays in a system designed to get him passing yards and passing TDs and to get him sacked often, but those numbers are all him and the losses and sacks are not his fault. A passing offense with the best WR and a great 2nd WR has nothing to do with his elite stats production.

Burrow played in a SB. He had as many TD passes as his running back. (1)

If 56th in the NFL at pass blocking Mekhi Becton was protecting Burrow he would be THE REASON FOR THE SACKS!!!! In Philly, its all Hurts' fault.

Mahomes plays on one of the greatest dynasties in NFL History with a top 3 Coach, and top 5 DC, a HoF DT, and top 3 TE, and Tyreek Hill, and on and on... but its all his greatness. BUT HE GETS TO SBs!!! ... where he plays like Jim Kelly. (picks, fumbles, sacks)

Mahomes has 9 total TDs and 13 turnover worthy plays (picks and fumbles) in SBs outside garbage time.

His pre-garbage time SB passer rating is around 82. This is not great. Its not good. Its not mediocre. He mostly sucks in SBs.

Every Chiefs SB is a close win or a blowout because Mahomes hands out free footballs. He gets sacked like crazy when not playing on slick turf(TM)

Every single thing that these chumps hate about Hurts in a 13 point Eagles win in November... they ignore when Mahomes does it way more in Super Bowls.

He won in 2023 because a punt hit a 49er and Kittle pushed off.

He won in 2022 because he was able to throw 2 sideways line of scrimmage TDs to an uncovered dude.

Mahomes was the greatest regular season stat compiler (2018-2022) That guy is gone. He's somewhere between 12 and 16 in QB stats 2023-24.

He adds nothing to the run game. He's not allowed to sneak. He runs like Fran Tarkenton. He might get 20 yards on occasion but teams don't have to gameplan for him running like with Hurts, Lamar, or Allen. What we are left with is a guy who is great in AFC playoff games in Arrowhead when the refs help him.

If you think this is better than a guy who was the best player on the field in 2 of the last 3 SBs? You love Mahomes. Its the only answer.

This might be Mahomes' most legendary throw. Yes, he ran around to buy some time but tell me, is this the WR getting open or a pinpoint throw in tight coverage?

Someone made a perfect analysis of the Hurts vs Mahomes SB.

AJ got open on a crosser and Hurts put it 100 out of 100 perfect right to him in stride.

Hopkins got behind the D on a key 3rd down and Mahomes absolutely botched the easy throw.

Hurts was Elite. Mahomes was not.

That is an oversimplified view of how the game played out. Hurts clearly stepped up when called upon and succeeded, but the game plan of building on the Saquon-led running game was arguably a complete success. Why?

In the scripted plays at the beginning of the game, in the first run, Spags loaded up the box with eight men selling out to stop Saquon at any cost. What did that mean? (1) AJ, DeVonta, and Goedert were all in Cover Zero … matched up one on one, and (2) the Chiefs we’re susceptible to play action, (3) to throttle Saquon most of the eight would mush rush so as to keep gap discipline, and (4) to keep the Chiefs in that eight in the box scheme Saquon needed to keep pounding them.

Three things happened as a result (A) Hurts and his receivers exploited the single coverage, (B) Hurts had little pressure and was able to go through his progressions and find an open receiver, and (C) Saquon was not able to break off one of his customary long runs. His 5.8 YPC during the regular season was helped mightily by long runs. His median run during the season was much shorter than the mean (average). As a result his YPC was a pedestrian (or worse) 2.3 in the game, but the threat of him breaking off a long run meant that (A) and (B) were there to be exploited and the Eagles exploited them.

Hurts did contribute 72 yards rushing for the game, 21 in the 1st Half and 51 in the 2nd Half when the game was no longer in doubt. Of the 21, 9 were on a broken pass play scramble and 12 were on designed runs.

Bottom-line, it was a team win that exploited the vulnerabilities of Spags decision to sell out to stop Saquon, as well as getting an absolutely superb performance from Fangio’s light box 4-2-5 Defensive scheme.

Hurts clearly stepped up, but he was one of many who did so. A total team win.

Hurts' performances in his two SBs were strong enough to erase almost all doubts about him as an NFL QB. By leading his team to a victory this time, he proved those that claimed that true, dual threat QBs that like to run will never win a SB to be wrong. He proved the people that claimed you can't build a championship team around a QB like that to be wrong. Where does he rank among his peers at the position? That's subjective ... and who cares? Mahomes is a good player coming off a bad game where his entire team played poorly. Hurts is a good player coming off a great game where his entire team played well.

I figured this topic was dead by now. There isn’t much more we can say about it. People have been proven right, and wrong when it came to Jalen Hurts. Bottom line is he’s the only starting quarterback in Eagles history to win the Super Bowl. You can’t take that away from him. In the end regardless if you’re a fan or a hater, Jalen Hurts gave you a super bowl victory. We can debate all you like about if any of those other quarterbacks people fawn over would do what Jalen did, but that doesn’t matter either, because those guys aren’t here and who is to say any of those guys has what it takes to play quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and this fan base. Close the book. Jalen is a proven winner.
