I said this last year and got torched for it, but TE is a weak spot and has been since Ertz declined.  Goedert hasn't really broken out and misses a lot of games, and the depth at the position is abysmal.

Until Calcaterra recovers from yet another concussion, Jack Stoll is TE1 and journeyman (if you can call him that)  Albert Okwuegbunam is TE2.
It's arguably the one offensive position that doesn't have an elite player, even when Goedert is healthy and Hurts needs to be able to throw to the tight end.

Called it in another thread, gonna probably be another 5 weeks like last season:

"[Garafolo] It was pretty clear leaving the Linc last night #Eagles TE Dallas Goedert would miss some time but it wouldn’t be a season-ender. Reminiscent of last year when he missed five games around this time. Similar timeline expected on this injury."

The timing right before the Bye helps a lot, caught a little luck there at least.

4-6 weeks as long as nothing else happened. Bye takes care of 2 of those weeks, so 2-4 games.

Luckily it happened right before the Bye, so that helps a lot.

Do you trust him to play and not get another concussion?

Don’t know. Remember he stopped playing football in college because of concussions and now he has another one. He’s probably not even sure if he wants to keep playing football.

Howie traded a pretty decent pick for the guy from Denver. They better get him up to speed quick, because they should have know there’s a chance Goedert goes down. He’s had a long time to figure out this offense and to be ready. They got two weeks to get him fully ready to go. He is their option and this should have been the reason why Howie traded for him. The time is now.

Okwuegbunam time (at least for the next few weeks until Goedert is back).  Time to find out why Howie traded for him.

Rappaport called it a 4 week injury on GMFB

Huh? Goedert is pretty much universally regarded as a top 5ish TE.

Tell Gannon to cut Ertz so we can pick him back up. That schmuck owes us.

He's on IR too

He has yet to live up to that. A grand total of 2 TDs this year, and now he goes on IR for at least 4 games.  That is not elite performance.

The other issue is TE depth. Calcaterra has another concussion - and as @EazyEaglez points out above, he retired from college football 4 years ago due to concussions. He might never be back.  So it's Stoll and the guy they got from Denver.  Tough spot.

Tell Andy to cut Travis!  Taylor is an Eagles fan she can help make it happen.

Nah, he's a top 5 guy. He was number 2 in the league in yards per game last year second only to Taylor Swift's boyfriend. He was fifth in total yards in 2021. He's 8th overall this year in what's been a down year for him so far. I mean, if you can name more than 5 guys who are better at the position, I'd be pretty surprised. He's considered a better blocker than a lot of the guys with more receiving yards, too. The TE position just isn't flashy in the NFL. It's not a position that's going to put up monster stats, and there's certainly no team out there that has crazy depth at the position. You get one of the best TE's in the league and you fill out the rest of the spots with guys who can block.

No. Just curious his status.

I suspect he will be part of the replacement plan. But I wouldn't call what we traded to get him a pretty decent pick.

We dropped from a 6th to a 7th two years out to get this guy....and when you factor in that Eagles will probably still be one of the better teams and Broncos probably middle of the pack, its not even a full round at the very back end of the draft. Was very minimal investment to ensure he doesn't hit waivers and someone else claims him

They basically invested value in a player the Broncos were going to cut. For some reason Howie thought highly enough of this guy to go out and get him. In any case I don’t see many other options here.

I'd take Jackson back from the Giants

I don’t think it matters if he keeps getting struck by lightning walking down a city street on a sunny day…when you miss 5, 1, 5, and 4++ games per year over the last 4 years, the dictionary definition of injury prone applies.

Of course it matters.  If you're always having soft tissue type injuries like hamstring and muscle pulls, that's one thing.  But if someone maliciously grabs your arm, and tackles you like that, then that's not being injury prone.  That's in a different category altogether.  Personally, I think that was a dirty play, period.

Interesting, hes on their PS so you could sign him and theoretically he just takes DG's roster spot with him going on IR.

Not a bad potential move, particularly if Calcaterra is no good to go.

Albert O has some talent, he just hasn’t put it all together at the pro level yet. Maybe it’s tweaking his route running a little bit, maybe he just flat out can’t read an nfl defense and doesn’t know where to go… I don’t know, but he’s 6’5” 258 lbs, ran a 4.49 at his combine, is only 25 years old and showed run after the catch ability in the SEC coming out of Missouri.

He’s got a great opportunity in front of him if he can make the most of it.

Man, best of wishes for him on his recovery. He means a lot to this team and this fan base. I guess the good side is he'll be well rested for the playoff run.

Jackson knows the system and I'm not sure he comes back after a concussion. You can go time between concussions, but the cumulative effects don't get better in my experience. You just get more susceptible to them. I'd bring him back if for nothing else depth.

Yeah, I don't see us picking anyone up either. There's no way they would carry 4 TEs on the roster if they aren't comfortable playing the backups when the starter goes down.

Last year, after the Goedert injury, it took Hurts a couple weeks to get comfortable throwing to Stoll and Calcaterra. Hopefully, he's able to utilize them while Goedert is out.

I don’t think Goedert has been as much of a focal point in the offense this year.  May be an easier transition.
