why do they need this game that much more than the Eagles?

We don't "need" to win but we certainly have to keep this close...they are going to be on a mission to shatter us like we did them. Despite your excuses for losing already, we need this game just as much as them. If this is a bad loss, heads will roll despite our record. (shades of 2020 steelers)

I'm sorry but where did I make excuses for the Eagles potentially losing this game?   I only stated that the 49ers need it more than the Eagles do, which is 100% true given that the Eagles have a 2+ game advantage on every other NFC team.  I think it will be a close game personally, but if you think "heads are going to roll" if the Eagles lose big while sitting at 10-2 you're simply delusional.

The only big time offense they shut down this season is the Cowboys, the rest of their schedule has been pretty ordinary offensively and they still managed to lose 3, including one against a Browns team without Watson or Chubb. The Vikings, Browns and Bengals managed to hold them for 17.

They aren't as big a paper tiger as Miami but they aren't an unstoppable force either.

They either win 35 to 7 or fall back and eventually lose if a team dare fight them back (similar to Dallas). They (like everyone) have a game plan until they get punched in the face

Not almost every playoff game. Every playoff game.

And that was being seeded 1

Anyone else think the underdog thing is more due to Cunningham possibly being out?

I mean if he is out that's gonna be a problem, you don't want Slay/Bradberry having to tackle McCaffery.

It's more that Vegas is fading the Eagles because they've won underwhelmingly while San Francisco is an offensive juggernaut when healthy. With Samuel and Williams out, they lost those 3 games. With them back, they're 8-0 SU with an average winning margin of more than 20 points.

On the other hand, 8 of the Eagles 11 games have been decided by one score, including 4 double digit comebacks (2 of those in the last two weeks).

Vegas thinks the 49ers are the best team in football when they're healthy, which they are this week.

I'm going to be honest here.  I want the Eagles to win this game, however, I'm still extremely confident in the one seed with a loss here.  I'd bet my house they'll see this team again in the playoffs and I'd be cautious to tip my hand too much.  The 49ers need this game badly, the Eagles do not.

Yup, long game.

I'm sure their fans and players would be untolerable until we roll them in the playoffs

Eagles injuries are obviously playing a part in them being a home dog.

Might be another long day on the Defensive side of the ball for the Iggles.

Brock Puberty can now finally say his b@lls dropped

If the Birds are to drop a game over the next 2 weeks, I'd rather it be in Dallas, not at home, at the Linc, against he Whiners!!!

The statistical head to head between the Eagles defense and the Niners is frighteningly BAD. The Eagles defense, even with stout D-Line play and strong QB pressure, can't do enough to counter the deficiencies in the secondary. In no way am I comparing Purdy to Mahomes and Allen, but if you look at the numbers Sam Howell put up, you start to realize that the secondary can be sieve like in performance. Last time I can honestly that I was happy with the defense performance would be the Miami game.

I'm ok with it.  Let the oddsmakers get our guys angry.  Any little edge can help.

If we start the game with 3 straight passes again and not establish some sort of running game we're gonna lose and lose badly.

I believe the Eagles are the better team, the problem is that while the 49ers have not lost their identity, the Eagles no longer have the same identify from last season, we still don't know what exactly this team is about except winning close games.

More than anything I just want the Eagles to play a complete game all 4 quarters.  That means having better schemes and play calling in the first half on both sides of the ball.  Take care of the obvious.

Defense: Take away the middle of the field throws Brock is the best as well as the short stuff.  Challenge his arm to make long throws outside the hashes. Inside leverage from DBs. Take away the wide zone runs they like. Similar to what they did to Miami.

Offense; Run it inside at Hargrave whenever he is on the field.  He was never stout at the run. Use screens and draws to slow down pass rush. Highlight more of short quick game to start it out but take a few play action shots.  Basically sustain drives and settle into a rhythm early and don’t start the game with 3 pass plays with Hurts holding it for 3+ seconds.

Avoid penalties and turnovers.  Niners are gonna be super chippy, play smart and don’t be the guy who reacts and gets penalty.  Be physical and bring the pain.

Yeah, I believe if we get Lane/Goedert/Zack back, the Eagles should win this game if they just play good, clean football. They don't need to do anything crazy.

I won't even be upset if Eagles play a good clean game and still lose. That means the better team won. I just hope they don't walk away from this game with a bunch of woulda coulda shoulda/why didn't we run the ball/why didn't we play Swift/etc

Last season was a different team. This season is a new team. Identities change as teams change. Look at the Chiefs this year.

We didn't play many complete games last year, the difference last year was we scored a lot more in the first half and not much in the second, this year that's flipped.

The team has to know this is a game where you empty the tank, if we win this we're more or less in the clubhouse lead for the #1 seed. They've met every big team so far and walked out with the W, at home in Wind and Rain they should have an edge.  All the whiners losses have seen McCaffrey held below 60 yards rushing. That's the key.

Something tells me this is just setting up badly for the Eagles....all their injuries, Cunningham, Cox, Goedert.....revenge by the 9'ers who are playing really good ball.  Like I said, I want the Eagles to win, wouldn't shock me if they do (especially with the way they never give up) but even if they lose, they are still in pretty good shape to get the #1 seed.  The problem is if we lose to SF and Dallas, well then it's butt puckering time.  But even then, run off 4 straight to end the season and probably at worst the #2 seed.  That is unless Cowboys and 9'ers win out.

It's Eagles +3 on FanDuel and DraftKings, but those books are frequently a half-point off the legacy books.  MGM and Caesars are both still at 2.5.

Yup its moving, so betters are hammering the Niners.

Matchup wise the problem is who in the Eagles back 7 is going to tackle Deebo/Aiyuk?

Yeah it bugs me a ton that a 9ers win here will give fuel to the lie they would have won last year with Purdy.  No they wouldn't have.

I don't care what the line says. Josh Allen is Way better than Purdy, it's not even close.  The Bills gave the Eagles all they could handle even over Washington. The Eagles beat Miami, Dallas, KC in Arrowhead and Bills in 5 weeks and won every game.  I do not fear anyone on the schedule.  49ers are a solid team but the Eagles are better.  Purdy has lost 3 straight regular season games this year.  Jalen has lost 2 regular season games over the last 2 calendar years.

The Cowboys will probably stall hard the next few weeks, they've ridden a powderpuff schedule so far and now they've got 5 games against teams that are genuinely competing for play off positions.

Howie did a  piss poor job with the defense this off season.  Not re-signiing CGJ was a huge mistake
