On Get Up Rex Ryan said,,," This defense has been a disaster. it is one of the worst 3rd down defenses.  They can't get off the field, they don't tackle well. They have 5 new starters but the biggest disappointment is the guy they have coordinating that defense cause right now I can tall you exactly what they're in.  They do nothing to challenge the offense.  And that's their problem. "

Rex couldn't be more right.  Desai is a disaster.  He doesn't blitz, show blitz to lower the QB's eyes and back off, doesn't get pressure on the QB, doesn't press and knock the receiver off his route.  He doesn't play much man and has the back 7 way off the line.  They let receivers catch the ball all game.  Dump passes to RBs consistently get 8-9 yards.  We don't stop the run well as we all too far away from running lanes.  We don't challenge.  We are a weak passive group that is the worst D in the league the past 6 games.  It is a high school scheme and Nick does nothing to fix it.

We have major problems with both coordinators.  We use less motion on offense than any other team.  Our core offense is comprised of QB draws, hand offs to flat footed RBs in the shotgun,  throwing deep balls like guys playing touch football do.  Just a disaster and also I would call it a high school offense.

Maybe we win 1 playoff game on the road but that is it.  We will get crushed in round 2 at SF or Dallas.  Lots of old guys need to retire or move on.  We need a complete rebuild of the defense starting with a new DC and hopefully someone will be dumb enough to hire BJ as their head coach.

They can take  cheerleader coach Siri with them. Team has no discipline. lacks fundamentals, and  focus every game this season.

Siri is just a glorified cheerleader that shows the team film and footage of other sports and motivational speakers. That crap no longer works.

Instead of blindly picking players based on having played at university of Georgia, maybe the eagles should have drafted based on talent

This feels like Doug all over again.  Once his staff got raided, it never got better.

I've got absolutely no problem with Carter, Davis and Smith on this roster. Dean is a question mark but Ringo was a solid get in the 4th.

The game passed Rex by, which is why he's working at ESPN.  Not surprised that TATE wants to hire him as the next DC though since it also hated Jim Schwartz, who's widely considered one of the best in the league.

The Eagles do get pressure on the QB. They don't get sacks. They don't have any creativity on either side of the ball. With the defensive players, there is not a single enforcer on the team.

Saw Rueben Franks article earlier and it's sad that this defense is historically bad out of decades of team history. It's not like SF and Dallas are the only teams that pretty much scored at will against the eagles.  The offense has its share of the blame as well as it has pretty much caught all the way up to the level of play of the defense at this point, give it another game or two and maybe special teams can make it there as well. I don't think many people have confidence that this coaching staff can turn things around.

the problem with the defense will only get worse next season, aging players getting over paid , cox , BG , slay. this team needs 2 LB's , whole new secondary and another DE and there's no fixing that in 1 off season. oh yeah a new DC too. offense a whole another story , no way kelce comes back to this clown act

Problem with this organizational philosophy is it's hierarchy and control structure

After Chip, Lurie & Roseman doesn't want any outspoken or opinionated coaches that will challenge them, they want complete control and no plan on relinquishing it.

The only reason Chip got fired is because he undermined Lurie on a stupid Christmas party, how Fing trivial is that?

I honestly don't know how we overcome this as long as Lurie & Roseman remain in control, this franchise may be Fed until Lurie strokes out and his son takes over.

they try to blitz and when do they get rekt. rather them not even blitz if that's the result. i think it's time to stop pointing fingers at the coordinators and redirect it to the people who gave them the job and dictate what they do.

Instead they draft Nolan Smith. A luxury project pick in the 1st round who hasn't done crap this year.  We could have gotten  an actual  LB, CB , safety, DE...To fill one of the glaring holes going into the season.

Howie dropped the ball on this team.

I know he is probably a great human being, and it is not like being fired from say a factory job he will be paid a significant amount, but both the OC & DC should be fired from the Eagles.

I am going to make a more in depth response on another post.

Maybe this scheme is from the analytics department.

And yeeeeeeeeet, he's won all but 5 games? 6 games? In the last two seasons. You get this kind of problem with nearly every 1st time head coach when they get poached for the first time. Doubly so when they get poached so early on in their career - keep in mind the only reason Doug didn't keep both coordinators after WINNING the Super Bowl is because McDaniels backed out on the Colts job. Sirianni lost both after LOSING.

That said, he does need to get better. Everyone does.

Um. Wasn't best player available the mantra in and out around here for years? This is how BPA works. You don't always get the needs, particularly when the needs appear as depth needs around the draft but end up being pressing needs thanks to injury or rapid decline. BPA isn't some mystical fix-all strategy. It has strengths and weaknesses like everything else.

So basically what he's implying is that both our offense and defense do almost nothing to challenge the opposite sides of the ball. That is actually hilarious in perhaps the most sad way. After the last game it was pointed out we are dead last in things like pre-snap motion to confuse defenses, and this year it's suggested that our defense does absolutely nothing to confuse offenses.

Did we, by chance, go so far in the emotional intelligence direction (which I do support, but to a limit) that we forgot all about X's and O's? Well crap.

When the Eagles wrapped up the draft, most everyone was giving them and Howie an A or A+

Yes he went heavy on UGA players but few to none complained. Nolan Smith was a consensus top 25 pick and everyone was screaming for Roseman to grab him at 30.

Everyone screamed for him to grab Nakobe in the third last year and Kelee in the fourth this year, and were ecstatic when he did.

Everyone praised him for grabbing Byard for the assets he traded. This business isn't without risks but aggression can be rewarded.

Before the SF game, no one said a word about any of this, but now in spite of two stompings on the trot, it suddenly all falls back on him?

He obviously isn't without his mistakes in the past, but I find this rhetoric taxing, and sadly inevitable amongst a fraction of the fan base. It's a real shame.

He's not wrong on the scheme. Desai has been a major let down.

His D is just very vanilla in both coverage and blitzing. Whether we win and get a stop, pretty much comes down to the front four winning one-on-one or not.

The Fangio shell coverage scheme can work but he throws lots of different pre-snap looks and then D will bail into something totally different to confuse the QB. We just don't seem to have that type of variation.

Siri has NOT had this team ready to play for nearly every game this year. The Eagles have been really lucky, and that's why their record is what it is. They better change things before the playoffs, or they will be one and done.
