Josh Sweat is limited in how many snaps he can play because of how poorly he played with high snaps as the year wore on.

How many games has he missed in his NFL career due to his knee? He played 828 snaps last season (7 more than Nick Bosa). How many practices was he a limited participant or DNP because of his knee? How many practices was he DNP simply for "rest"?

His knee is no more of a risk to be hurt than anybody else's.

He ran a 4.5 at the combine which is scary to think how fast he would of been if he didn't have that nasty knee injury.  Dislocated knees can destroy a pros career, Sweat did that, plus tore every knee ligament but I guess being in HS saved him.

Bridgewaters injury was the closest to being as bad as Sweats that I can remember, and for those that don't know, the scary part of a knee dislocation is the artery behind your knee and if it gets damaged enough, your lower leg can be amputated.

This is dumb, and really unprecedented for the Eagles.

missed 1 game in 7 years

top 5? At his position

closer-which they never have, knocked Purdy out, won the Jax game last year, finished off the Rams this year, I’m sure I’m missing others…

The Eagles are known for swooping in when other teams allow a premiere guy go. This is the opposite.

Btw if you’re a Dallas fan (or any rival) You’re laughing because this makes the Eagles instantly weaker…

When your defense was already atrocious, you don’t play this game —especially becomes the number 1 FA if he were to hit free agency.

Do I even have to mention Howie’s track record hitting on defensive players?

DUMB.

Give him an extra 5 this year and guaranteed next year at like 25mill…ask yourself where will the savings go to…

I get all of that and look I’d like to see them find a way to keep him… But the reality is he wants a big pay day and at 29 he may just cost too much. For every other reason you’d keep him.

He'll be 30 next year and they can't afford it.

Well we could if Howie wanted to blow a large chunk of whatever cap we have in doing so but then that severely limits the ability to re-sign DeVonta and Dickerson and make moves in FA.  Unfortunately from all the previous restructures and kicking the can down the road we have pretty much hit the end of the road with those options now (Byard is the only one I believe that we can cut to create some additional room).

You know this how? He wasn’t even given a shot last year.

I'm making the assumption that he couldn't demonstrate in practice that he belonged to be significantly in the rotation. When you invest in a first round pick, you're hoping to get immediate value out of him.

I don't recall him missing any time because of his knee. Did he?

Help me out on his injury history. He had a knee issue in high school and other leg injuries but then recovered and played well in college.

He didn't miss any games last season. He led all D linemen in snap counts. The prior season he left the Saints game with a neck injury and missed the rest of that season. He had a wrist injury the one year. Has he missed any games due to his knee in the NFL?

I also don't think you can judge most players last year especially defensive players that declined toward the end of the year...they all did. The coaching change made things worse and the entire defense struggled. I think if they want to bring back Sweat he will be fine.

He actually led all linemen in snap counts on the season.

The entire defense played poorly as the year wore on. New DC, hopefully some roster upgrades, I want to see how he looks next year.

Sweat had a bad year. People say that Reddick disappeared but sweat was much worse.

i do fear for the team next season and I think we have to consider that we’re not going to be contenders and in a relative rebuild.

Howie really needs to nail this draft which is worrying because he’s had more misses than hits recently

You know it! @EazyEaglez @Bwestbrook36

Some might say if he doesn't nail this draft, it will set the franchise back for years!

Reddick and his agent did not ask for a trade. The Eagles offered that knowing his contract status if they want to.

Reddick says he wants to remain in Philly.

Reddick re-tweeted these below from Jordan Schultz.

Wonder if there was any dialogue between the agent and FO about a possible extension before letting them know they were free to explore trade options.

Yeah who knows. My guess is Howie was already prepared for awhile knowing what contracts were coming up and is just getting ahead of things.

It would be a bit d-bag'ish if Howie did so without having even bothered to find out what his contract demands were.

I would also guess it didn't come out of nowhere, but his agent probably talked with him about it. But I guess we'll find out more as more gets reported about it.

Another howie F up?

I actually compare it to the Slay situation, from last years Off Season.

"Hey Slay/Reddick, go seek a trade, see what you're worth on the open market, at the age of 30 or so. If you get tons of $$$$, see ya! If  you don't, then come back to Philly at a lesser value/deal. Kthnxbye!!".

They were about to cut Slay. Baltimore was ready to sign him and then the Eagles and Slay worked out a new deal

The Saints game, BTW was the 2nd to last of the regular season in 2022. Sweat played in all 3 postseason games. So he only missed the one game because of the head/neck thing.

It's weird to me the false narratives people choose to believe around here. Sweat's knee may have been a concern to teams during the 2018 draft, but that was 6 years ago. If the Eagles had any current concerns about that knee, they wouldn't have played him 75% of the defensive snaps last season nor would they have granted Barnett his release during the season.

This reminds me ... I was reading a piece about Nakobe Dean the other day and the writer claimed, "Dean has struggled with injuries his first few seasons in the NFL." First of all, this was only Dean's 2nd season in the NFL. He hasn't yet been here for "a few" seasons. He had no injuries in 2022 and played in every game. Yes, he had to deal with injuries last season and, IMO, that made the defense worse. But to ignorantly give the impression to readers that Dean is always getting hurt is the kind of irresponsible writing that obviously sways opinions around here, sadly.

I used to worry about Correll Buckhalter's knees. The dude missed the entire 2002, 2004, and 2005 seasons with 3 separate knee injuries. But Josh Sweat? I can't even remember seeing him with a knee related injury designation since he's been in the NFL.

I do think eagle45 had a point in that Josh Sweat is better with more rest. Obviously he can handle 828 (regular season) snaps, but he can be more efficient if you can keep that number down around 600 or so.

Yup. In 2024 only 3 vets  are scheduled to make a salary over the veteran minimum. Byard and Maddox will either agree to major salary reductions or be cut, and Reddick was granted permission to seek a trade. In 2025 the only  veteran scheduled to make more than the vet minimum salary is AJ Brown (in the 2024 offseason he'll either be extended or get the same treatment as Reddick is getting this offseason to seek a trade).  Their ability to create salary cap room by restructuring salary to signing bonus is almost gone entirely.  Between that an the last few years of giving 1 year deals for Cox, BG and Fletch (that keep adding to the dead money amounts after they retire), don't expect any big FA signings in the next 2 years, especially if they extend Dickerson and DeVonta this offseason.

He never asked for a trade. They do this to test the market/price and then see if it is reasonable to pay him the going rate. having said that- PAY the guy, he is worth it.
