I've seen things like this more and more:

my wife, a lifeline liberal Democrat, has long opined about the stupidity in some of the extreme left, and it seems like Oct 7th has broken open the dam.

FWIW Biden has pissed off the illiberal left. MAGAs won't see it, but that takes the legs out from under this argument that he's somehow beholden to them.

The far left has gotten nothing under Biden. He's a normy old school dem who doesn't give rousing speeches and has poorly marketed his wins.

I am seeing more push back as well which is great.  Generally, I agree that Biden has managed to hold the fort and not be driven to any significant extent to adopt silly policy.  Not a perfect record but certainly one that meets my approval.

There is pushback against the GOP nutters, but sadly, there seems to be  so few left in the GOP with any balls willing to stand up to the MAGA turdflakes who run the show now.

Interesting, because according to Trump and Maga all democrats are Liberals. They use the word Liberal as term of derision.

there isn't a demagogue on the left that would elevate the nuttiest like there is on the right.

not yet anyway.

Anecdotal, but this weekend I was watching UFC 300 with some old friends who have a nice mix of ideological views.

It struck me that the two most left wing people were the ones bringing up politics and how exacerbated they are with two particular issues: (1) the LGBT stuff and (2) crime.

The most striking was a buddy of mine who works in entertainment. He was a big Hollywood liberal, exactly the caricature you would have thought of in the 2000’s and early 2010’s. He could not stop talking about how the far left stuff has ruined TV/movies and made LA unlivable.

He recently moved his production company out of LA and said everyone he knows is doing the same due to crime, taxes and regulations.

I can’t even begin to describe how big of a departure it is for him to criticize the Democratic Party or liberal politics.

So, yeah, not a big sample size, but it was promising.

Imagine how well the republicans would do if they were just normal. If Mitt Romney were to run against Biden he would win in a landslide.

I was just talking to my mate, who is in US politics, about this exact thing. Even mid-to-late 90's Gingrich era type Republicans would be dominating right now in the wake of left wing overreach. Instead, they counter with Jan 6 (the gift that keeps on giving), church lady book bans, nutty conspiracies, and cartoonish cozeners.

Romney ran and the nut job Obama still won.

Obama was (and still is I suppose) an exceptional politician, probably the greatest I've seen in my lifetime.  Romney was a good, middle of the road candidate who didn't stand much of a chance given how good Obama was (as a campaigner/politician but he was also a very good President, which made him even more formidable).  I realize you guys hated him with the burning passion of 1000 suns, but to pretend like he was a nut job after seeing what we've seen since he left office is straight up delusion.

He is an absolute nut job and is the single person most responsible for why we are dealing with the insanity of the left today and the reason our federal government is overrun with leftist activists. A complete and total disaster.

But, yes, I would agree he was a great politician and campaigner.

That’s the point: it doesn’t matter how good the candidate is on merit. Romney was the best candidate from meritorious perspective we’ve had since at least GHWB. Clearly, he was totally out of Obama’s league. But it just didn’t matter.

No.  And ridiculous.

He was an incumbent.  An historic one.   Who followed a really disastrous one.  And he was incredibly gifted as a campaigner    Romney's merits weren't enough to overcome all that.

Ganan's original quote was that Romney could beat Biden.  Which is true.  Biden isn't Obama.  Obama would beat Trump in a landslide.

Absolutely true. Obama is literally the man who "fundamentally transformed” America, and he even stated it was his goal publicly.

And he was a nut job. Again, being a nut job doesn’t matter. You people used to believe this when Trump beat Clinton.

He said very standard campaign platitudes?!!!!   Oh, no!  Marxism!  :furious:

Wut?

I figure now is probably a good time to remind everyone that the whole "90th percentile IQ" thing all originated from an argument where TEW tried to claim Trump is more intelligent than Obama. And no it wasn't a joke, he was being serious just as he is now with his "nut job" comment.

Wut?

he told people they needed to look in the mirror and do some soul searching and for some reason, that burned some to the core and broke them beyond reason, which led to MAGA.

so, in reality, TEW is correct.

While YOU don't like Obama, that doesn't represent the overall electorate. Obama is charismatic and wildly popular. I mean he won deep red Trumpbot state like Florida Ohio, Iowa, and Indiana.

I actually think Biden is a far better president than Obama, but Obama was far more well liked. It's hard to defeat a sitting president unless the president in question is historically bad and/or unpopular....like Trump.
