Agreed, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to laugh at him when he acted like he was going to put his kids through college when he literally lives off his wife's income. It was a layup I couldn't resist.

Higher education has become a racket in large part.  Unless your studying toward a professional degree, chances are good that it won't be worth the investment.  No shame in studying at state subsidized universities and colleges - but even those can get cost prohibitive.  It wasn't so long ago that Nova University down here in South Fla. was considered a third rate college.  Now, they've bought up a sizable chunk of Davie, Florida real estate.  Since when is higher education supposed to be in the real estate business?

We need more people trained in the trades.  Less investment of time and money in education - and bigger payoff when it comes to earning capacity.

Originally we looked into trade school as well, as she expressed an interest in going to culinary school. There's a huge wait list here.

I his defence, you came right out the gate with a self-fulfilling prophesy

I hear good things from friends about Culinary Institute of America (CIA, weirdly enough). I think it's expensive though.

He doesn't work warehouses, man.

Corporate tax rates and the top income tax bracket rates are too low and have been for the last 40 years. The most successful big companies have been able to grow and take over their markets buying or pricing out all the competitors which were the smaller local own family businesses across the country. Nearly every market in the US has the big 3-5 companies that control their market from pricing to workers wages. Consumer prices are no longer set by what a product cost to make, they’re set by how much consumers are willing to pay and in some cases (healthcare, housing and education) what are consumers ‘able’ to pay, including loans and debt. Covid accelerated all of the above when the government gave large sums of money businesses based on the size of the business and then spending money to consumers addicted to spending.

Fixing it, if it’s even possible to go back, would be painful for everyone. There’s too much money and division in politics for just one of the political parties to even make an attempt because they’d be voted out in 4 years. The two parties aren’t working together for anything and I think voters are getting dumber by the news cycle.

So the question is how bad will it get before we realize too much power and control by big business is just as bad as too much power and control by a big government?

This is an excellent point.  Too much power concentrated in too large institutions, be they governmental or private institutions, is dangerous.

Enforce the antitrust laws, and if need be, beef up the antitrust laws.  Doubt it will happen though.

I agree, although only under specific circumstances. If a Republican wants to do it, then cool, but if a Democrat wants to do it then it’s definitely Socialism.

How about insect labs?

College isn’t right for everyone,  but it’s a low-stakes environment where young people can learn to live on their own.

Apple is literally being sued by the DoJ for antitrust violations. The largest since the one against MS over 20 years ago.

You don’t even know the difference between a public and private university.  Which honestly is hilarious

True, I didn't work warehouses and stuff, whatever the F that means.

Destroying old people’s future too.
