It was for my doctorate. It's a nice thing to have, but not nearly worth what I paid for it. I forgot about co-ops and work study which are also good programs for undergrads.

Good stuff! Though... as I think about it now (3ish months before my 39th birthday), I'm the age my mom was when my Freshman class graduated, and a year from now I'll match her age when I did graduate college, so I still could have graduated when I did 16 years ago and still have a kid graduating college myself

My wife does well, but as a man I'm happy to be the breadwinner. You wouldn't get it.

They're not, but the points he raises need to be addressed or we are going to be in big trouble. Trump is gaining popularity among young people for doing exactly what you're saying here...offering simple and unrealistic solutions for very complex problems. Bernie was popular among young people for the exact same reason. Bernie lost. Trump is going to lose again. My fear is what comes after them.

Right, because the average american is dumb, terrible with money, lives above their means, and hates introspection. They'd rather listen to someone say "hey this problem with society isn't really this hard in reality, it's not your fault you don't have as much money as you'd like, it's all _______'s fault. If we knock then down a peg, then everything will be fine, I promise." Fill in the blanks as needed depending on your audience: immigrants, greedy corporations, big inefficient government, men, women, out of touch boomers, lazy millenials, etc.

There actually are some low-hanging fruit though, we do see incredibly complex problems with relatively simple and easy answers:

energy generation => nuclear power plants (it's emission-free, virtually "renewable", and relatively safe compared to the archaic alternatives)

investing and wealth accumulation => index funds while budgeting appropriately (living below your means until you can get a decent start)

parenting => just be present with your kids, showing up and caring gets you most of the way there (bonus points if your spouse does the same)

But exceptions like these are few and far between, the majority of society's pervasive problems have no simple solutions, and the people that imply otherwise are often just playing their own hand they were dealt (beause they're on TV, or trying to get on TV, or running for office, etc.)

A dude whose wife provides for him and his family calling a person with a career "useless" lmao. Hate to see it.

Worthless even. Fat useless chicks obviously need to "conform" to find an idiot desperate enough to provide for them.

Young people make stupid, careless mistakes all the time. I voted for Nader.

Higher education has become a racket in large part.  Unless you're studying toward a professional degree, chances are good that it won't be worth the investment.  No shame in studying at state subsidized universities and colleges - but even those can get cost prohibitive.  It wasn't so long ago that Nova University down here in South Fla. was considered a third rate college.  Now, they've bought up a sizable chunk of Davie, Florida real estate.  Since when is higher education supposed to be in the real estate business?

We need more people trained in the trades.  Less investment of time and money in education - and bigger payoff when it comes to earning capacity.

Agreed, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to laugh at him when he acted like he was going to put his kids through college when he literally lives off his wife's income. It was a layup I couldn't resist.

Why do you say that? I know you have an H-Superiority complex, but this is pretty politically agnostic.

Just so you can point out how smart you are in comparison to others?

Galloway is right on so many points in this that it is hard to keep track
