It could be the worst tourism season that the nation has ever seen there. Due to the rioting and pandemic.

What are your favorite little historic towns in Sweden, @DrPhilly?

Visby is my favorite. I also like Vadstena and Trosa. One place we visited on this trip was Marstrand which is built around a nearly 500 yr old fort. Mariefred is nice too.

Have you been to some that you like?

is that New Asgaard?

I've never been to Sweden.  I'm just curious on what are little towns worth stopping in, if I'm ever there.  It's like knowing about places like Cape May or Lewes.

Plenty of places like that.  I just listed a few.

How many people there know that Delaware was once a Swedish colony?  A friend from Sweden of a friend of mine didn't really know that.

Philly use to be part of New Sweeden

Thus the colors of Philly's flag (and the original Eagles uniforms)

Most don’t. If you tell them then they say "oh yeah I knew that” but they didn’t.

Time to bump the travel thread.  I had booked a trip for Maui that was cancelled due to Hawaii extending their quarantine restrictions.  A pure beach vacation wasn't my first choice, but it would have been a nice escape.  Now just tried a short notice week in Cabo with full COVID last-minute cancellation ability.  I've never been to Cabo.  I'm most interested in the opportunity to swim with whale sharks there.

So funny there!

I just got back from New Mexico and Arizona.

Everyone knows how Colorado and Arizona are big places with young people because of the jobs and scenery.  While jobs aren't on par in New Mexico, the scenery is amazing in New Mexico.  I can see New Mexico becoming the next Arizona or Colorado, since it's a lot cheaper and you get the same great mountains and deserts and National Monuments and everything.  It still seems like it's relatively undiscovered, at least to me as an East Coaster.

Santa Fe is a great little city, too.  It reminds me of a Western version of Annapolis or Newport, with so much history around each corner in the Old Town section.  It's definitely worth seeing some time.

Took a road trip out west a few years back - driving to and then from the Grand Canyon it was crazy how you would go what seemed like hours with nothing but desert.  And no cell reception - would suck to break down out there

From where to the Grand Canyon?

I've driven from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, and Albuquerque to the Grand Canyon.  Las Vegas to Grand Canyon Village is the most desolate of those drives.  Phoenix to Grand Canyon Village is the shortest.  Albuquerque to Grand Canyon Village is probably the most interesting.

where's everyone going this fall with all the covid crap going on?

I'm bummed - was offered to do an installation in Inuvik, which is as far north in Canada as you can go in the Northwest Territories. However, I am not flying during COVID.

I would love to go, otherwise. Business travel, even to the end of the earth is usually more fun than normal work days. I love an expense account.

We are at the beach for the week.

Boston this Fri-Monday. Mostly wandering around on foot to see/explore/experience the city. Going with a lady friend who has not been before. Will visit Salem on Saturday or Sunday. Friday night hitting up this AYCE seafood place in Rhode Island where I may claim the lives of 5 or 6 lobsters as well as some crab legs. A lot of my Thai spots and other joints still look to have dine-in still shut down... so may have to wing it on some lunch and dinner options based on what is operating.

Well right now its hot there, 19 degrees Fahrenheit. What sort of installation are you doing up there?

Ah nice. I'm in the aircraft deicing industry so these places far up north always interest me.

Communications reach farther and father. I am amazed that you can get Internet in Punta Arenas, Chili, but you can and I had to fight with the customer service folks there.

We spent some time on the North end of Brigantine today. Shorts and flip flops. Perfect weather for late October. We forgot our good camera and binoculars but went to the bird watching tower and the northern natural preserve. You can see marsh, beach and preserve for miles.
