I leave in about 10 hours. Will land in Vegas at around 10am local time (stop off in San Fran to clear customs). I'm so f'ing exhausted and I haven't even left yet

Safe travels!

Just waiting on my flight to Philly. Will land about 7am. Going to the game on Sunday

Similar to blanking in the Thursday game in Houston, I also blanked on the fact that I could have flown into Philly for a day to do the Sunday game, then flew into Orlando Monday morning still or even Sunday night. Oh well, spent 4 days in Houston (metro) the start of this week and will appreciate 4 nights at home before being back on the road for another 5ish days

1. Bar recommendations for Philly

2. Do most places close at 2?

3. What's open later than that?

No one is going to respond at 2:15 AM on a Saturday night.

McGillan's Old Ale House is a good place in Center City.  It's the oldest tavern in the city.

Yes, last call in Pennsylvania is 2:00 AM.

There's a place inside an old bank building along Broad Street, a little bit south of City Hall.  It's an after-hours place, so I think it opens at 2:00 AM.

My Delta Gold status finally paid off with a First Class upgrade bump (Friday morning) for my departure that happens in about 55min

@paco I imagine you had to get upgrades on the regular when you were flying weekly. Those days are behind you now though, right?

Surprisingly, I still have 1k with United only because they kept rolling it over due to the pandemic.  Other than bringing bringing baby girl home (plus 2 baby related trips) and going to Ireland, I haven't been on a plane since the pandemic started.  And my current client won't budget for travel so I'm not going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

Enjoy a free bloody mary.  It's one way to get your free first class booze but not seem like a drunk.  Follow me for more tips.

I’m happy that out football team doesn’t suck but I’m sad that one time I see Fitz it doesn’t make sense to ask him to to join our team

Philly is one of the best cities in the world for food and I don't care what anyone says. I still haven't had a bad meal here

I struggle to think of any American city as one of the best in the world for food, but I definitely think Philly is easily one of the best in the country.

It's legitimately up there.

New Orleans has to be way up there as well.  It's the center of Cajun cuisine.  I don't know if Philly has an entire type of cuisine to claim.

Santa Fe is actually a great food city.  It's the center of New Mexican cuisine.  New Mexican cuisine is a little like Tex-Mex, but it's a blend of Tex-Mex, true Mexican, and Native American cuisine.  I wouldn't be surprised if New Mexican cuisine takes off and gets big like Cajun cuisine at some point in the future.

NO has some great good. Never been to Santa Fe and would love to try.

Pre Covid, I actually think Pittsburgh deserved a spot very close to the top, but they were hit pretty hard by supply chain issues.

I think the SF food scene is a bit overpriced and overrated.  Chicago too.

One thing NYC has that’s arguably tops in the world is their diversity of food.  You can get very good anything.  Not much originality and, despite all the Michelin stars, not much that I’d really call world class…but few, if any cities have a good example of everything.

I think there's two versions of great food cities: ones with the famous, fancy restaurants, or where food is art, which is where NYC and San Francisco fall; and ones with good food everywhere, even in corner shops.  Philly, New Orleans, and Santa Fe are the latter.  Charleston, South Carolina, is a good food city, but may be a little more the former than the latter.

Where does barbecue culture fit into the food scene?  Because then cities like Kansas City and Houston would have to be high on the list.

It’s hard to travel with a 19 month old, but we basically force it and plow through.

We went to Bahamas and then a very small resort in the exumas in the smallest plane I’ve ever been on.

Nice!  How hard was it to get a flight to an out island?  How was the connection?  How expensive was it?

Dunmore Town is supposed to be the prettiest town in the Bahamas, so I want to go there some time.

Going to Costa Rica with our 15 month old for our (3 years belated) wedding soon.  Gotta plow through the tough times to get them used to traveling.  Definitely worth it.

Philly has great food and that's really at any price level.  Killer cheap late night eats, great fine dining, and everything in between.

Great way to look at it.  I've been all over and I'd say Philly is right at the top overall.  #1 in the second good food everywhere category, not #1 but top level in the first fine/fancy dining category, and #1 in the combination of the two.

we got invited to a wedding in costa rica in 2024. what are the chances i get graped by a monkey while im there?
