Tweaking the 2024 Roster / Practice Squad (Ongoing Thread)

Today’s roster moves.

• LB/FB Ben VanSumeren placed on Injured Reserve

• WR Parris Campbell signed to 53-man roster

• TE C.J. Uzomah, LB Ochaun Mathis elevated from practice squad

NOTE:  we had to sign Campbell to the 53-man roster because he was out of elevations (and was needed since Johnny Wilson (hamstring) was downgraded to out for this game and DeVonta Smith's (hamstring) status is questionable.

NOTE#2:  this is the third and final elevation for Uzomah

Soon he’ll be giving Julian Vandervelde a run for his money (as the reigning roster yo yo champ).

Campbell did a nice job blocking but i don't know if he was open much for receiving...

They obviously really valued the role that VanSumeren was filling for this team to bring in a FB.

It especially makes sense considering our identity as a rushing offense.

TE C.J. Uzomah signed to 53-man roster.  Makes sense ... he was out of elevations.  He takes the roster spot cleared by releasing Campbell.  I believe there may be another roster spot open with VanSumeren being placed on IR.

I think we are caught up because we claimed Charles Harris off waivers last week.

As expected …

Always hurt, he is.

If you can, move on from him and get a new TE from the draft or FA as soon as possible. Good player but so fragile and injury proned.

Bringing Book back.

I think they signed an RB too?? As Shipley is in the concussion protocol??

If you think Pickett is bad you haven’t seen book.

Not sure it gets much worse than Book to be honest…

Highly doubt Book ever sees the field.  And Pickett isn't great or anything but he isn't as bad as some try to make him out to be.  In spite of his limitations he still had us in position to ice that game last weekend.  Key drops by Barkley, Brown, and especially Smitty hurt.

They have Davis-Price on the PS already, but they did add Lew Nichols again.

He has familiarity with the players here and can actually run read option plays effectively. I wouldn't expect a high octane passing game from him ever, but we're talking emergency reserve QB, not someone to eventually push for a starting job. In order to see Book play, Hurts would have to be not-cleared (obviously if he doesn't practice today, that will be the case), Pickett would have to get hurt and be unable to play/return and McKee would have to get hurt and be unable to play/return. So Cook is currently the 4th QB on a team that runs over 60% of the time.

Let’s hope he’s back, healthy and ready to go after the remaining games.

Goedert’s 21 day practice window opened.  Should be back for the playoffs.

Calcaterra's filled in well in the passing game, but he's had some absolutely brutal reps blocking. It'll be good to get Goedert back.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced a series of roster moves as they prepare for their Week 18 matchup with New York.

Eagles Defensive Additions

Among the new signees is defensive back Tariq Castro-Fields, a player with experience across multiple teams in the NFL. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Castro-Fields’ journey has seen him play for the Commanders and, most recently, the Panthers. His 2024 season with the Panthers included nine snaps on special teams.

The Eagles also added defensive back Mekhi Garner to their practice squad. Garner, an undrafted rookie out of LSU, has already made an impact this season. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 212 pounds, he’s proven to be a reliable presence on both defense and special teams. Garner was elevated from the practice squad three times during the regular season, accumulating 27 snaps on defense and 45 on special teams. His playoff eligibility resets provide the Eagles with added flexibility as they head into the postseason.

Defensive end Charles Harris is another notable addition. Harris, initially claimed last month, offers depth to the Eagles’ defensive line. His release came after Bryce Huff returned to the lineup, but his re-signing signals the team’s intention to maintain a robust rotation of pass rushers.

Eagles Release Two Players

To make room for the new additions, Philadelphia has released defensive end Tarron Jackson and running back Lew Nichols from the practice squad.
