We saw another example of the stupidity of this new rule in last night's game. The Jets were penalized fifteen yards after a Bills extra point, moving the spot that the ball would be kicked off from on the ensuing kickoff. But what exactly did that do? Nothing. They moved the ball up to the fifty but there was no advantage given to the Bills. They still had to kick it to the silly "landing zone" to force the Jets to return it. So they simply kicked it into the endzone for another routine touchback.

It's a complete embarrassment.

bring back traditional kickoffs where the ball is consistently fielded and returned. expand the roster if they're afraid of injuries. Devin Hester is rolling over in his grave.

He's still alive lol. Freaked me out for a second.

I agree with this (except the part about Hester being dead). They should at the very least allow the full 53 to be active on game days. The kickoffs this year are trash and the onside kickoff has been ruined by the rules.

Is there a reason that Braden is doing the kickoffs and Jake is not as Jake can get them into the end zone but fear that he would get hurt over this stupid dynamic kickoff thing?!

Fear of Jake getting injured is very real. He got hurt a few years ago on an opening kickoff and the Eagles had to go the rest of the game without him. Since Mann is pretty good at kickoffs too, it makes no sense not to use him instead.

When I watch college football it really hits home how much I miss the "old" kickoff.  This new format sucks!  Hopefully it is gone after this year.

That was 2017 at Dallas (week 9 iirc). Concussed trying to make a tackle

Elliott missed a kick later in that game then Kamu Grugier Hill did kickoffs and went for 2 after each touchdown

Im surprised more players aren't complaining about it. But then again, too many players today are just lazy. 🤣

The new kickoff is lame AF.  I haven't looked at statistics but from the games that I've watched, the ball is touched back even more so than "traditional" kickoffs.  It's boring as hell.

Looks like the NFL is going to re-visit the new onside kick rule this upcoming offseason to possibly make additional changes.  Thank goodness.  Now can only hope they add the new kickoff rule to what they plan to re-evaluate.

I’d heard one of the onside kick changes up for consideration was to allow the kicking team the option to take the ball at their own 35 in a 4th and 15 opportunity. I feel that would be a more likely scenario than recovering an onside kick.
