In Poland she may be able to get a kosher wine (Concord?) but that's REALLY sweet

Lambrusco is what people often go to for sweet red

edit: I said in Poland but I see now you said she's coming here

2nd edit: Shiraz is often on the sweeter end of normal wines without getting into the port/lambrusco oversweet territory

Yea they normally visit once a year for 2-4 weeks. They were supposed to be here for thanksgiving for the first time this year and stay until New Years but corona.

Dornfelder is a semi sweet German red wine.  And it's under $10/bottle.  We sell an ish load of it at my store.  Probably the top selling sweet red wine there is.

Badil Hayden ten is real nice neat. Just enough rye kick

saw some Cream of Kentucky 13yo but $130 seems silly.

Tried Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey, Connor McGregor's creation.  It's cheap and you get what you pay for.  Pass.

My local store had a single barrel select of Eagle Rare, very smooth.

Also picked up Blade and Bow one of my new favorite bourbons.

I've heard good things about blade and bow. Love to see it around sometime

I think we have Blade & Bow at my store.  We got our monthly allotment of Blanton's, Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace (in both the 750ml and 1.75L sizes) at the end of last week.  Our waiting list for Blanton's is probably 3-4 months out right now.

You have any Eagle rare or know where to get it? I need some Christmas gifts.

Picked up their double rye over the weekend. Really enjoying that one.

Yup.  Regular Buffalo Trace is allotted here.  We get 1cs of 750s and 1cs of 1.75s each month along with the Blanton's and Eagle Rare.  We just keep them in the office and some customers know to reserve a bottle ahead of time and the rest we give to customers who ask for it when they come in the store.  The owner keeps a spread sheet list for the Blanton's so every month when we get our case of it he puts a name on each bottle and then calls those 6 customers letting them know they can come pick up their bottle.  Wash, rinse, repeat right down the list.

Thanks the fascist state govt control of liquor stores

also just killed the wild turkey rare breed. Excellent recommendation thx

Baby Saz is so damn good

Here in whiskey and bourbon country, we're spoiled.  Can get Eagle Rare and a lot of stuff people seem to have a hard time elsewhere.  Buffalo Trace is pretty common, although at the start of the pandemic overseas buyers were buying up all the stock so stores here started limiting to 1 bottle per customer.  I haven't bought it in a while but last time I checked I think there was a whole display of them in my store.

We occasionally get Pappy Van Winkle at a store in my area.  Is it worth the huge price tag to try it ??

I don't think so.  It's way overpriced.  At least what the owner at our other store sells it for, which is whatever the cheapest price he can find online for it is.  For instance, I think here in NJ we pay $60-70 for the 10YR and then sell it for $600.  I once had the 23YR and thought it was really good, but there are other Bourbons out there for much more reasonable prices that can compare.  Not sure what stores in WA are retailing it for, but if the prices are the same or close then IMO it's not worth it.

Seems Bourbon prices are on the rise as there's a handful of limited/allocated ones that owner raised recently.  Again, probably to match the cheapest online prices he could find.  To him that's the market rate and he won't sell below that, but other stores I'm sure are selling them for more.  The demand is still surging.

This. Got the 12 year last year for msrp through the state lottery. It's good, but not $500 good

I'm more of a bourbon guy anyway, but I've always had an issue with scotch blends and I don't know why.

I've had many single malts that I loved but I can't get into the blends.

My literary hero was famous for drinking Johnnie Walker Black - I wanted to like it so much but I just don't.

What do you like in single malts that you don't find in blends?

I've tried different scotch and just can't get into it.
