I'm thinking of making Old Fashioneds for thanksgiving eve. All I have is woodford reserve though, and I like drinking that straight. I'm also not in the mood to go fight with morons at wine and spirits this week. Decisions decisions.

Also I think the wife wants tequila lemonade that I make for party's but I think I drank all the tequila like a week ago. So as I fight off hoards of alcoholics at W&S is there a bourbon that you fine folks like for an old fashioned?

Hard to beat Cimarron for value if you are going to mix tequila

JW Dant or JTS Brown are good cheap old fashions

Tequila I just use Jose Cuervo 100 percent agave. My recipe is make a simple syrup and mix with a cup 1/2 of fresh squeezed lemon juice, add water to taste (basically the size of my pitcher). Let it chill for a day, in a bigger pitcher add ice, lemonade, half a bottle of tequila and stir. Then sit back and watch people get drunk without realizing it.

I’ll check out wine and spirits later for it.

Is Old Forester bourbon any good?  Like, if we got a gift pack (a 100 proof bottle and a bottle of 1910), would that be an ok gift for someone who is getting into bourbon?

I'd be happy with it. The 1910 and 1920 are really good and I've heard the 100 proof is as well

The prohibition 1920 style is the best one of the lineup but that gift pack should be fine if they are new to it

Seeing rare breed out here for 40 a bottle

may never quit that one

in that price range, paco you could get a four roses single barrel which is an icon. Lots of great options at that price point

We were at costco seeing if we could find something smallbatch, like Jefferson.  They didnt have that, but we saw that gift pack so thought why not.  I honestly know nothing about this.  I dont drink whiskeys\burbons\scotches\etc

Well nobody is perfect

Seriously the best bang for the buck I've found. I just hope it doesn't become too popular and have the price skyrocket or get hard to find.

Grabbed a bottle of maker's mark 101 today. Gunna give it a try either tonight or tomorrow. Was really hoping to find their wood finishing series

WT Rare Breed is readily available in NJ and we usually get in Four Roses Small Batch (6pk case) on the regular as well.  Been keeping my eye out for unusual Bourbons that come in.  Usually any Buffalo Trace Antique Collection my store gets is transferred to the other store (the glory h o e s).  Yeah, they're the busier store because they've been there longer in a better demographic, but can we get something to give our customers?  It's technically the same business so the money is going to the same bank account, but they like to make it a competition, which even our sales reps don't get.

We just got in Knob Creek Barrel Select 120 proof that's exclusive to our stores' chain as the owners hand picked the barrels used to blend it.  Haven't had it yet, but the last time it was really good.

Barrel picks tend to be the best stuff, assuming people know what they are doing

now KC got its 9yr age statement back and its 30 bucks. Another good value

Shops out here starting to put a one bottle limit on regular buffalo trace

silly when i can go to target and there are cases on the shelf for 23...

Unpopular take: regular BT is better than Eagle Rare

am pondering a run to the BT distillery...

Did you pick that up before or after the game last night?  If after then I bet you wish you had it handy for last night.

After. Might have gone into liver failure if before

I think I drank a half a bottle of Bulleit by the end of the Eagles 3rd three and out to start the game.  It went down easier than water at the gym watching that trainwreck.  Had the wife hide it from me for the rest of the game.

I agree with your unpopular take. Not a big eagle rare fan.

My mom got me a whiskey advent calendar. It's the first 12 days of December. Yesterday was benchmark no8. Not great. Tasted like brown sugar and rubbing alcohol

Day 2, old forester 86. Rye bite and barrel. Not great, but not bad.

Rebel yell 100 for the third night. Enjoying this one. Lots of barrel and vanilla, very well rounded. I'd buy this one

The yellowstone single barrel is good but even better with a rock in it

some bottles just need the water to open up
