Tonights advent whiskey was woodsford. Every I knows what that tastes like. Nothing new but I do like woodsford

Rebel yell always seemed like swill. Never tasted it

Thier normal expression is your typical bottom shelf. It's close to an Ezra brooks, Evan williams whiskey. It's not bad by any means, but nothing special. I liked the 100 proof. If it's under 20 bucks, I'd think about picking it up

First up, a sales rep from one of our liquor/wine distros brought in an Eagle Rare 17yo, which his company doesn't even distribute.  It was from his personal stash and he was trying to finish it off.  It was rather nice.

Second, with it being so cold and damp this weekend I was in the mood for something smokey and brought home this Ardbeg 10yr from Islay.  Notes of caramel with undertones of citrus, floral and sea spray rounded out with a firm peaty smokey finish.  Hit the spot tonight.

Their Wee Beastie is really good and under 50

Is Old Forester bourbon any good?  Like, if we got a gift pack (a 100 proof bottle and a bottle of 1910), would that be an ok gift for someone who is getting into bourbon?

Regular OF is cheap and not the best quality, but as Bfit said the 1920 Prohibition style and the 100 proof are better.  If they're just starting out it's a good choice.  I like it, but some more experienced bourbon drinkers look down on it as lower quality and wouldn't buy it.

Unpopular take: regular BT is better than Eagle Rare

am pondering a run to the BT distillery...

They're very different though.  BT is more spicy and Eagle Rare is very smooth with less of that "burn" effect.  I recently got an Eagle Rare single barrel select from my local store it was good.

I drank a lot of Buffalo Trace a couple years ago I think I just got bored with it and moved on to trying other things but it's good.

Excited to finally see this in a store, after seeing Bulleit use these campfire style mugs in their ads for years but never making available for purchase. This gift set was the exact same price as just the bottle.  There were 3 left on the display when I saw it so I grabbed one.  In walking around the store another guy saw me with it and asked where I got it, he's been looking for that too.  I decided to make it an early Christmas gift to myself.

We had that on the shelf as well and I was considering each of them, but went with the 10yr.  I was also considering the Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered, we have 3 left and keep them in the office to customers who ask for it and limit it to 1 bottle/customer, but I really wanted something with smokey flavour.  I drank 1/4 of the bottle last night.

I really want to try the smoke wagon small batch

Back when I was just starting to drink whiskey (instead of shooting it  ) I would buy a "fancy" whiskey. To me back then, it was anything between 25 and 30 bucks. I got a buffalo trace bottle, and then a few months later got an eagle rare. Didn't know they were from the same distillery, or even highly sought after. I remembered liking BT, but this king ER tasted like diet whiskey

There are all sorts of things out there and different "flavor profiles" and all that.  ER is nice when you want something smooth but if you're used to more bolder flavors then it can seem "diet.'

snagged an ER today but the real gem was a store pick 1792 full proof.

So do you drink a bottle or two a week or do you have a large stash of whiskey?

And I don't mean this brand just overall

Nah my inventory has been building. Always does this time of year. Best time for bourbons especially

but yes my boredom drinking has become a terrible habit

Finishing my whiskey advent calendar tonight. Ended up being really cool, and having a pretty decent selection, even a few I hadn't had before.

1: benchmark

2: old forester

3: rebel yell 100

4: woodford

5: Maker's Mark

6: larceny

7: knob creek

8: wild turkey 101

9: new riff

10: calumet

11: buffalo trace bourbon cream

12: david james single barrel

Drinking the david james right now. It's really good. 102.6 proof, 15 year 10 month age statement. I had never heard of it before. Looks like it goes for 75 a bottle. Little pricey for my blood, but I'd consider it if I wanted to treat myself

The Calumet was, eh. New riff was really good though. I might look into picking up a bottle of I can find it close by20201212_204221.thumb.jpg.ea6d584b3e6dbd550a8625ddd0bd87dd.jpg

Was offered (and had) some Jameson coffee ukn’ sheet tonight.  Yeah, smelled and tasted like ace.

We would get the BT Bourbon Cream in allocated amounts at my store.  I've had it and it's good.  Don't think we've gotten it in quite a while.  We still get our 1cs of BT in about the middle of every month along with our Eagle Rare and Blanton's.  We got some Col. Taylor Rye this month as well.  All the Bourbon prices are going up due to demand and limited supply.  Nature of The Beast.

The bourbon cream is good. Had it at the distillery last year. Not something I'd drink though, it went in the coffee this morning

I bought a bottle to try it because I was curious since we wouldn't even put it out on the shelves, but would have a list of customers who wants a bottle and would keep it in the office and work down the list.  It's a nice sipper when you want something on the sweeter side, but otherwise it's good for coffee or to make an adult beverage hot cocoa.

There was another one called Orphan Girl Bourbon Cream that was cheaper, but not quite as good.  Haven't seen that in a while.

Ezra brooks makes a cheap one that they sell in PA.  Last year there was a gift set with a travel mug in it. Haven't seen it this year yet. I like bourbon cream better than irish cream though

There was a Tequila Cream from a brand called 1921.  It was cool because you didn't need to refrigerate it so it wouldn't go bad.  That was tasty stuff, but don't think it stuck and it's not around now.  A shame.
