The ezra 7 is big on flavor if a tad hot

My wife and I did a quick trip to Asheville with our newborn and our pup.  We went to an awesome rooftop bar downtown and I got their $24 version of an Old Fashion with Makers Mark private selection.  Absolutely delicious.

Ok so I didn't know where to post what just happened to me, but this seems like a good thread, due to the title. CSB time. I didn't take a selfie because I don't do that kind of ish.

So about an hour ago I am in a liquor store in North Wilmington, DE, at the counter paying for a handle of Vodka and a bottle of Pinot Grigio.  Weekend booze. In walks an older gentlemen who looks like.....................Dick Vermeil. I do a double take. Pay for my stuff. I turn around and he is right behind me. I have to say something, RIGHT??!!

Me: Uhhh, are you who I think you are?

DV: Puts out his hand, shakes mine, and says 'I'm Dick Vermeil. Nice to meet you'.

Me: (silently) WHHHHHHAAAATTTT???!!! (out loud) Ummm....I say my name, really cool meeting you. You live in DE?!

DV: Just here having breakfast with a friend at a diner down the road. I come into this store because they carry a (I know nothing about Whiskey) blue label scotch that is hard to find.

Me: Oh ok. Ummm What are you doing these days?

DV: No football, not really, just staying in and keeping up in the Wine Business.

Me: Any thoughts on the Eagles? Jalen Hurts? The new HC?

DV: Didn't get to see the game the other night, but I heard some positive things. I like the potential of the QB & the HC.

Me: Great! Hope they have success.

Then I leave the store and say again nice to meet you!

Must have been johnny walker blue

I may be making too big of a deal of it, but damn. I saw and met a NFL Super Bowl winning head coach -- who just happened to take the Eagles to their 1st Super Bowl -- at a liquor store at 930 am in frigging Delaware!!

Ughhhh. In hindsight, I have like 4678 football related questions I would/should have asked.  LOL

The old ezra 7 makes a nice manhattan

I thought my Dick Vermeil run into story would generate more excitement. LOL.

I guess WU is not what it used to be. Or maybe a Whiskey thread was the wrong place to post it. 😉

Worthwhile to have something like this on main board.  We need a "Brush with Greatness" thread where we can document our celebrity encounters.

Got picked in a right to buy raffle for an EC18. Score

For everyone in PA, Old Tub is sold at state stores for like $17. Really nice for cocktails at that price.

Is JTS Brown sold in pa?

Anybody have any thoughts about Eagle Rare? I snagged a bottle when I had a chance, I haven't opened it yet. Best served straight, neat? Any better ideas?

I don't drink lots of whiskey, usually sticking to beer, but I do like to keep a bottle of bourbon around. So I mostly stick with lighter whiskey. 90 proof shouldn't knock my socks off.

Well, is hard to find and marked up in someplaces because of demand. Having said that, I'm not a big fan of it

Its light and oaky

try it neat then with a few drops of water

i am drinking 105 proof stuff neat though so my palate may be fried

Local group did a small batch selection. Its surprisingly good. 21% rye bourbon

I’ve been on a barrel proof kick for a while, don’t drink a lot at 90 proof. OF 1910 and Woodford Double Oaked are hitters, Eagle Rare is decent as is it’s brother Buffalo Trace. The latter two are often hard to find and there is too much good stuff out there for me to spend time looking for them.

So apparently EC is now letting shops bottle store picks at barrel proof. Going to be alot more of it now

Will be curious where they price out. The last 3 ECBPs I bought were 59-69, regular store pick can be found at 29 or so around me.

Old 55 is a newer distiller put here getting alot of positive press. Tasted a few barrel picks and its better than i was expecting

Opened my 4R store pick

tasty obsv

Sept is Bourbon month

looks like i know what my verizon gift card is going towards…

Local store had a regular BT barrel pick

such a steal for 27 bucks

BT has some weird distribution. Some places it’s everywhere, where I’m at it’s not sold at all. My local liquor store gets a case once or twice a year and auctions it. As long as Early Times BiB is 23 bucks it would be tough to feel like I’m missing out on BT.

Yeah same with weller. None here but lots in ohio. But they come put here to get BT…

Picked up a knob creek rye single barrel

store pick. 115 proof

not sure why but i like their rye much more than their bourbon
