i would love to actually start buying more different scotches, but the mark up for decent juice here is just disheartening. used to be i could wait and find laphroiag or ardbeg 10 for just under $50, now theyre both in the 60s. anything the least bit exotic is close to or over 100. there are a lot of bourbons i would love to buy in that 60-100 dollar range that seem more special than a companys basic scotch offering.

Ardbeg Wee Beastie is about 50 and good for only five years on it

kilchoman is a personal fav. The base machir bay is usually 50-60

Found some OGD 114

ya know for 29 bucks its not bad…

However Smoke Wagon continues to be excellent. Order the small batch from their website

Frey Ranch - they are putting out high quality stuff even in its youth. their stuff should be top notch in a few more years.

Both the small batch bourbon and the BiB rye are excellent

I've heard very good things about them, this is definitely on the bucket list. Got a buddy out in Vegas I'd like to try to visit in the next few years. I'll have to stop by the distillery.

Hit Frey Ranch too

Dons liquors in CA just put up some smoke wagon if they can ship to PA

Snagged a McKenna today for 44

Had to look into it, as Don's site said the customer was responsible for adhering to the laws of their state. PA laws have changed recently, but it seems that they only relaxed it for wine, not spirits. I'll be in CA this summer, though. Maybe I can find some nice stuff in a shop out that way.

i think at least distilleries can ship to PA. the one in texas that has a youtube channel i watch sometimes recently began shipping to PA, and they seem to stick to the laws pretty strictly

The shippers dont care about the laws they need the money.

Smoke Wagon? All I can find when I go there is the regular bourbon or the combo pack that includes the small batch.

I see it now. $40 for shipping, though...the whisky is only $57

1792 full proof is the best version of their juice.

Picked up a blue run high rye from a buddy in kentucky

I’ve really been enjoying their stuff.

Anyone tried the offerings from Barrell?

I have a bunch of them — Seagrass, Dovetail, cask strength rye are all solid. Have a couple county single barrel selects I’m waiting to try as well.

Definitely some fun stuff to try and not as rare as some of the other premiums out there.

For the price i just dont find them to be anything special. Solid. But a cnote solid? Meh. Rather have two stellum bottles if i want their stuff.

much rather have a blue run if i am going to drop 100

Something something something, stop being poor, something something something.

In all seriousness I get what you’re saying. But one thing I love about whiskey, as opposed to say beer or wine, is you can buy a bottle and just have it. It won’t go bad or whatever. So you can pick them up as you go, try them, and have them.

I’ll tell you one I was disappointed in: Penelope.  I haven’t tried the barrel strength ones yet, but their regular bourbon was like $21 and since they got good reviews on their other stuff I was excited for a new cheap bottle. Wasn’t a huge fan. Larceny is worth the extra $5 or whatever.

I like larceny far far better at barrel proof. Had some good store picks though.

opened an Old Bardstown (willetts cheap one) and its not bad. 90 proof easy to drink and good flavor

I bought the Whistlepig 10 year last weekend and my friend and I went through it pretty quick.  It was good. Probably not worth $85 for the bottle but still good.

Got one as a gift. Its good but WP is generally over rated and over priced
