Got one as a gift. Its good but WP is generally over rated and over priced

There was a huge liquor shortage in NC the past few years and our ABC store was almost bare.  I was surprised they actually had a Whistlepig.  Even Basil Hayden just got back on the shelves in Mint Hill, NC. Made plenty of trips to SC to get liquor I wanted since Covid.

VA abc stores started raffling all the allocated stuff recently i think? They jacked up their whole distribution network

Picked up an EC A22 today

also hearing old grandad 114 and evan williams single barrel are going away. Which is bs

Picked up a blue run reflection 1

Made an ogd 114 ild fashioned. Works great for that

I'm geeking out a bit here. I was able to order straight from the distiller. Shipped out of D.C. and was here in just over 24 hrs. Had to finally pick up some Glencairn glasses for the occasion.

Lovely nose of smoke, oak, and maybe some some cinnamon and caramel, herbs.. Great secondary and tertiary characteristics on the palate. Nice burn, especially on the finish, but no bite. Smooth as hell. A crowd-pleaser for sure.

Yup love the smoke wagon

think I am done with Bookers. Just not worth the money

Anyone had Peerless Rye? A buddy's who's also big on rye says that this has been his go-to recently, particulary as a "high rye" w/ a 65% rye mashbill. A little pricey, but I'm always looking for the next best thing.

Peerless is way over rated imho

I've gotta go back and get more Pikesville. I really loved the vanilla quality that it had. Stumbled upon it at The Hawthorne in Boston when a barkeep recommended it for an Old Fashioned. Such an amazing bar. I believe they went out of business in Covid.

Way off topic, but this made me look up the bar I went to up there.  As much as I despise Boston fans and teams, it was an incredible city.  I've only been there once, but when I landed this was the first place I went to and it was fantastic.

It really is a great city. So much history and culture. Some of the old Victorian architecture is really cool, and the natural surroundings are nice when the weather cooperates. Not really a place I'd want to live long-term, but I enjoyed being there for four years of college and really enjoy visiting for vacation.

I think I've been to the Oyster House at least once. Some of the best clam chowder you'll ever have!

a guy I went to school with moved to Boston after college. He became a pats fan immediately after being a birds fan his whole life.

Worst. Sports fans. Ever. ESPECIALLY the ones who become fans of Boston sports simply because they lived in Boston. I know a girl who I met in college but was from Philly, yet she is a Pas fan. She lives back in PA now, still has for a long time...still a Pats fan. I've always thought considerably less of her...

These fans are disgusting. I’m sure there are more of these parasites in Boston than other cities, but to just abandon your own team that you rooted for where you grew up shows a lot about character.  There are a few of these in the blog.  Charlotte has no sports history whatsoever, but whenever someone asks me why I haven’t become a Panthers or a Hornets fan (even though they know I’m from Philly), I give them a look of absolute disgust.

Buy some frey ranch. You wont be sorry

Been meaning to add this one. It's been on and off that little reserve shelf they have behind the counter at the state store. They get a shipment every now and again but I missed out the last couple of times. Seems like a treat for $27.

I feel the same way about this as I do Blanton's. It's perfectly fine at MSRP, but there's a handful of bourbons I like more at the same price point.

Having said that, I have both bottles. I enjoy both bottles, but if they weren't hard to find, I dont think I'd keep them around as long as I do

Well, in the buffalo trace price point (20-30) I'm fan of Evan Williams Bib, Jim beam old tub or bonded, four roses small batch and eligah Craig.

Blanton's price (45-65) wild turkey rare breed, Ezra Brooks distillers or 7 year, four roses single barrel, Woodford double oak, new riff single barrel.

Thanks, I will keep these in mind. I keep seeing/hearing people talking about  the Elijah Craig small batch. That might be my next buy.

I love four roses and Elijah Craig, but overlook both of them often in favor of trying something new. I need to just go buy both of them one day so I have them.
