I mean you could go either way with that response lol

He broke 2000 legitimately in 16 games like many others. Shut it down. Nothing to play for I believe and no reason to risk anything. It would still be an asterisk in my book considering it would take him 17 games to break the record.

But should there be an asterisk for doing it in 17 weeks, not 16 weeks? There was no Bye week in 1984, so Dickerson did it in 16 straight weeks with no week off to rest.

Players do what they do within the confines of the rules of the day. The record books don't differentiate era to era.

And Dickerson was on a less talented team and didn’t have the luxury of closing out games as Barkley did. Bias statement

Sure.  Him and his 379 carries that year on a 10-6 team didn’t have the luxury of "closing out games”. All his carries must have been in the first 3 quarters.

Stop the nonsense.

If Barkley breaks the record he will likely do it with less carries than Dickerson had in 1984 and at a higher Y/A rate - making the extra game essentially meaningless when looking at the stats.

You know... since Saquon had never actually played on an NFL team before this year, he's the first Rookie to ever run for over 2000 yards in a single season!

You don’t risk the stat of a SB win for a stat of most rushing yards.

It's not just Barkley that is being put at risk It's the OL that could also be getting some necessary rest.

I think you give him a half. Then you pull the starters unless he's short a handful of yards

Not a chance I play him. Forget about a season-ending major injury, what if he gets a high ankle sprain. He’s gone for the playoffs.

You would deny him the chance to make history? It needs to be his call.

No way! This team has bigger goals.

Look it would be amazing for him to break the record next week. It would be great for him, the OL, his team mates and the entire franchise.

But it’s just a no no. You can’t risk him and you can’t risk the OL.

The idea of needing a 17th game to break the record doesn't bother me. If I'm not mistaken, the NFL season was once 12 games, so any player who holds a record based on total accumulation has done it in more games than someone else who previously held said record. Do they all get asterisks too?

That said, as tempting as it is, there are bigger fish to fry. This team has played since week 6 non stop. The bye is extremely unlikely right now. As a consolation prize, what if we gave Barkley a chance to set the Super Bowl rushing record? I think he'd like that.

He’s not had a week off since week 5 (like early October). He’s got 340 or so carries. And he’s far enough away that 1) he may not get it if he plays the full game and b) he’d need his entire OL in there to help him do it.

He'd probably have 2500 yards by now if we didn't waste so many downs on those crappy designed QB runs.

Brown and Smith might have record seasons too.

Assuming that we end up the 2 Seed (which is of course guaranteed at the minimum now), and the 1 Seed is not possible. Sitting our starters, and even sitting our 2nd and 3rd string, it would be a bye week heading into the playoffs. So unless we go for the record, and unless the 1 seed is still possible, we're guaranteed a 'bye'.

I'm not 100% sure that they won't go for the record, even if the 2 seed is the best we can do. But I'm 98.3% sure of it.

Nick is a players coach. I’m sure he’s going to have a conversation with the key parties involved this week and make a decision off of that. They may decide to go for it but man I hope they take it as a bye.

Nick is going to let Barkley decide I'm thinking. He's not taking it away from him. But maybe he chooses to sit.

I'm glad it's not my decision, though I wouldn't mind the salary that goes with the responsibility.

I mean yeah absolutely I’d take that. I think ultimately Sirianni has to look big picture.

That's why, if I were him, I'd consult Lurie and see if he has a preference. If he says 'go for it', the onus is on him.

AJ and Mialata have already said they want him to get it, so it sound like the players really want him to get it done. I tend to agree that it should go higher. It's cool, and also sucks that it's right there. The 1 seed is a dead deal IMO, and I've been fine with the 2 for awhile.

That very well could be, and is very much likely. But that doesn't rule out a home NFCCG for us. The Lions could be 1 and done, and if we handle our business, that puts the NFCCG at the Linc.

Absolutely, and with the Lions injuries, I don't think it's far fetched. I just hope they can hang on and hold off the Vikings. I'd much rather Minnesota go on the road in the playoffs.

Based on how the Vikings game is going I don’t think we can get the 1 seed. That will come down to either the Lions or Vikings next week.

So the eagles are locked in to the 2 seed. They will rest next week.

Barkley is the 9th guy in NFL history to cross 2000 yards rushing.  Put the first unit out there next week and go for the record.  This record is as much a team record as it is an individual one.  When you play not to get hurt you end up with more injuries.  I bet the Oline would come out firing next week to get him the record.

I also think if Barkley breaks the record, he has to be MVP.
