Seth Joyner said yesterday that players don't sit around saying I need rest and I need time off. Players want to play and they should play against the Giants and that includes Hurts. 

Of course Sayquan should play to break that record. This type of milestone does not come around very often. People are saying ED has the record with 16 games. OJ had the record with 14 games. ED had some 30+ more snaps than Barkley right now. Give Sayquan the ball and let his shove it up the NY Gnats butt and get the record for himself, his O line and Eagles.

Agreed, but if they both handle it right the various personal and team pros and cons will be weighed in making the final decision.  Stout should be part of that too.

I can't imagine our O-Line talking about this season years from now and saying, "Sure, we could've set the record for most rushing yards in a season, but we decided to take a rest day"

A team wins the Super Bowl every season regardless of stats

But this record has been standing longer than I or any player on the Eagles has been alive.

No one remembers who won the Super Bowl in 1984, but everyone knows who has the rushing record for the past 40 seasons

Play the starters. Get the record and then sit every one you can.

Is dickerson’s record with an asterisk then? I mean, there was only 14 games when OJ set the record that Dickerson broke. 
 

Also, Barkley is averaging more yards per carry than Dickerson. So if he had the number of carries in 16 games that Dickerson did in his 16 games, Saquon would already have the record.

I agree, I'm glad it's not my decision and that I have no 'influence' in the decision. Can't blame me either way!

But if they go for it, great. Get it and enjoy it. If they don't, hopefully they get a Lombardi for the trophy case and I can change my avatar to include a second ring! Get both, and so much the better!

But I have a feeling that this will be a 'fun debate' for the next several days if they don't come right out and rule out the possibility.

That's my feeling on it, and even Dickerson said the same thing. The records cover the regular season, however long the regular season is, be it 12, 14, 16 or 17 (or in the future 18) games. The regular season is however long it is.

Yep. And if Barkley does play and get the record, he will have almost definitely done it on fewer carries than Dickerson, despite the extra game. The record was on 379 carries, Barkley is only at 345 right now. 

Everyone wanting him to go for the record will be the same ones calling for Nick's job if Barkley gets hurt next week, they get smoked in the wildcard round, he misses half of next season, and they're sitting at 2-5 in 2025.

I'm a little torn on the idea of going for it (or not). I really want it, partially to poke a finger in the eyes of the Giants, but also for him because it such a huge career accomplishment and to get this close could never happen again. Just ask Dan Mario, who thought that he'd get back to a lot of Super Bowls after losing to Montana and the 49ers. It never happened again for him.

So these 'historic' sort of moments are special and may never come around again. 

Changed my mind and think he should go for it.  This record was set in 1984.

If we rest the starters and get bounced in the first round (which is very plausible with Hurts missing nearly a month of playtime), then we cost Barkley a chance in the Hall of Fame and breaking a nearly 40-year-old record.

The Super Bowl is over a month from now, IF we make it. The chance to make history is right here.

Pretty sure to they are going to play Hurts against the Giants to get him some work in, he already had rest the past 2 games because of the concussion so he doesn't really need the rest in week 18 like others do 

They need to give him up to a half to do it. Also, Hurts needs to be out there too. Gotta knock off some of the rust. He missed 2 games pretty much. We all saw the crap after not playing pre season. We had a bye week before playing the crappy Browns, and that game didn't look too pretty. 

Nothing is guaranteed any way you look at it. Nothing guarantees a SB, nothing guarantees health and etc... Players get injured in practice, or literally running on to the filed about to play in the SB (Greenlaw). Crap happens.

We need the rest for the run! Fact of the matter is he could have easily gotten it if he weren't pulled from games earlier in the season. They have bigger plans. Break the Playoffs and Superbowl rushing record how bout that!

This.  Give the starters (including Hurts) a half, since Hurts needs to be out there anyway to get reps in before the playoffs and they're not going to put him out there behind the 2nd string oline for obvious reasons.
