They had the Cows demoralized, and pulled him with 11:30 in the game. If they wanted the record, I think they would have left him out there and IMHO i feel he could have gotten another 50 easy. Which then would make Sunday an easier task. Kinda hope I'm wrong and at the same time, hope I'm right lol

He already had over 30.. If he has to do it, and I rather he didn't, I prefer 30 + 20 over 50.

Happy new year everyone. I'm already writing this in 2025.

Risk of injury is too great. They’ll need to play all their starters and the Giants will be selling out against the run. 101 yards isn’t slam dunk and would likely require at least 15-20 carries, which would take the majority of the game to achieve.

For a team that doesn’t play its starters in the preseason, I can’t imagine they’ll play them in a meaningless regular season game. Rushing record or no.

Until recently this was my feeling exactly. But then I listened to Seth Joyner ... and some other things came to mind.

1st, your not on the verge of breaking any records in the preseason.

2nd, Barkley will probably never be this close again.

3rd, even though it's Barkley's name next to the record, this is truly a team record, including the defense. If the defense is getting the brakes beat off it every week then the offense has to throw more to stay in games. Yes the offense has been explosive with Barkley running, but no one knew it would be like that until it happened.

4th, While playing everyone doesn't guarantee the record and every week is an injury risk, resting the starters doesn't guarantee a Super Bowl victory. I can't imagine being this close and resting everyone for the sake of the championship only to come up short - and then have to wonder why we rested everyone when we were so close.

5th, Fortune favors the bold.

6th, I don't think the Giants Defense will load the box with more than 8 ... BUT if they do then we'll just get the record for TD passes in a game. Let the Giants pick their poison.

The wise decision. Bigger goals.

They're scared. He averages 4yds before contact and has the best Oline in the league. They're not even playing on that crap field

7. Now the players bodies have the first rest since early October.  Two weeks will make a difference and they have the rare opportunity to go in mostly healthy.

Screw that record I want a SB.

There isn’t much to gain unless getting the record is such an important deal it galvanizes the team further. Putting Barkley out there also means putting the full offense out there. Otherwise Barkley doesn’t get the softer boxes and the 4yds before contact.

I'm good with them resting guys they need it... I'd rather a sb ring

The eagles also had one of the earliest bye weeks this season.

So now if we don't win a SB (which is a real possibility), Barkleys incredible year will be meaningless and will be forgotten. Great.

Agree to disagree

they are not going to the super bowl this year. too many holes. we've seen them all year. sitting him when that record is right there is a FU to him after he's singlehandedly carried this team all year.

I want both

I don’t think so. Barkley is in a select group of players have have broken the 2000 yard rushing barrier.

And the Eagles have as good a chance as any team in the NFC to make it to the SB.

He broke 2000 legitimately in 16 games like many others. Shut it down. Nothing to play for I believe and no reason to risk anything. It would still be an asterisk in my book considering it would take him 17 games to break the record.

Number of games is irrelevant. It's number of carries that matters. Right now Saquon has 34 less carries than Dickerson had in 16 games. Can Saquon get 101 yards in 33 or less carries this week? If so, then he is greater than Dickerson across the board. The stats are: Dickerson got 2105 on 379 carries back in 1984. Barkley has 2005 in ONLY 345 carries as of today. No asterisk required.

Dickerson never won a Super Bowl ... the Rams gifted him a Super Bowl ring five years after his career was over when they win the Super Bowl with Marshall Faulk.  So that record is the one that is meaningless.

You want Barkley to break a Dickerson record?  Focus on the playoff record 248 yards rushing in a single game.

Saquon and certain other starters will rest - Siriani has confirmed.

A difficult call, but the right one given the team hasn’t had a break since Week 5.

Ugh. I wanted to see him get the record. THAT is attainable.

This team going to the SB, and winning, it is NOT attainable. A gauntlet of GB, Minny, Detroit, and then KC or Buffalo? THAT IS BASCIALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

GET THE EFFING RECORD!!!!!!!!

I support the decision, really. That was a damned if you do or don't situation. I would have gone for it, this stuff is important to players. It could have given a real lift to everyone going in to the postseason. But I can't really argue against it. It's a shame. They better win it all, now. I believe they can. Go Birds.

100 yards shy of possibly having a Hall of Fame career. But congratulations on your rest you Fing moron. You're going to hate yourself forever.

If we don't win the Super Bowl the story of the season will be how stupid Saquon and the Eagles are for intentionally passing on breaking a 40 year record.s

Epecially as we prepare to enter a playoff game with the Packers with a QB coming off a brain injury that hasn't played in a month

Certainly not impossible to get to the SB this year. Detroit is very injured, Vikings have Sam Darnold as their qb (who has had a great year but could easily have a bad game on the road in the playoffs), and Green Bay is just a decent team. Now Buffalo in the SB would be quite a challenge but so were the patriots when they beat them.
