I don’t want to spoiler anything but Wahlberg ruined this movie for me

I figured Topher Grace was going to ruin it for me, and he was still annoying, he was nearly as bad as usual. Maybe I was so ready for him to ruin it that I gave MarkyMark a pass but I enjoyed it.

Signed up for HBO Max, and just saw today that they purchased Mad Men and will have it in 4k.

Then saw this.

I saw that Mark was in it, was already not sure because he's been the same character in everything. He's reaching levels of actor that will do anything for a paycheck and just play the same type.

Then I saw Topher Grace was supposed to be the villain. Hard pass.

It's pretty well done and I enjoy it, but depends what you want or expect out of it. It is your typical hospital/medical show but the story is told more by focusing on the medical part than outside drama story lines so it feels a bit more realistic than a show like Greys Anatomy or something dumb like that.

I really enjoyed season 1 - was definitely an easy binge. I watched one episode thinking it would just another run of the mill hospital show but I was immediately hooked.

Couldn't make it through the pilot. It's Grey's Anatomy (which I don't like), for nerds.

I was not expecting a Primal s3, but there it is.

Just finished Task. It was...ok. Mostly good acting and directing, and I liked that it wasn't trying to be too big of a story or over the top, it felt more grounded and realistic. Especially that the FBI and cops were flawed and not all of them great at their jobs.

Some things that bothered me

Spoiler

  • Sam lived in a trap house with biker gang parents, around guns and drugs all the time but had no clue of that? He acted like a kid that was kidnapped from a normal suburban family. He also should have been acting out more, scared or something. He was just going along with anything and everything, passed around to strangers

  • They built up the search to find Sam and then broke the first rule of TV/movies: show, don't tell. Unless I missed something (I went back through episode 5) they did not actually show Maeve go into the police station with Sam. That should have been an important scene to SHOW the audience. Maeve and Sam's different emotions and tension. Sam should have been scared for what's going to happen to him, question more about where his parents are (if he hadn't figure it out already, as I said the kid lived in a trap house with drugs, guns and parties)

  • There was a larger conspiracy with cops tipping off the gang that felt like they just kind of ignored at the end. A bunch of people got killed and then they moved on.

  • I thought when Tom talked to his boss Kat (Martha Plimpton) and she made a call they made it seem like she was part of the corrupt police, which is good they didn't do that cliche. But later they reveal that she was looking into the task force staff and found dirt on Grasso. That's it. That "mystery" was about nothing. I thought that she set up this task force of terrible cops to fail on purpose, or because they didn't care if gang members were robbing and killing each other. Tom was out of shape and bumbling around like Columbo which I thought was him just doing a shtick at first but then he really was washed up. Lizzie the state trooper didn't even know how to properly hold a gun and was useless. The only good Task member was Aleah and they didn't let her do anything at first. Later on she was making head shots like a zombie video game while running, incredible aim that was a little too incredible.

  • There was just a lot of meat and drama left on the bone on this one. A lot of tension built up and not enough emotional payoff. I didn't care one bit about Robbie's swimming flashbacks with his brother. Maybe I just don't like the actor but I didn't buy any sympathy they were selling. Maeve (played by Emilia Jones) I had sympathy for, and she gave a good performance. The Dark Hearts were written like the writer watched Sons of Anarchy and other biker gang movies and said yeah let's just copy that. They weren't interesting at all.

  • A standout interesting development was Robbie trying to protect Tom, and the fact that he didn't want anyone else getting hurt from his plan to sacrifice himself and let his family get away. But they quickly dealt with that plot point.

  • Then the show took a break in a way that felt like it was over. They stopped and slowed things down in the last 2 episodes which I suppose was realistic, that the task force is over and the case re-assigned so they have to think through their next move. But the pacing still felt off.

  • I also thought they could have had more emotional moments with Tom's daughters as they take in Sam. They were probably going for "we're used to this" because of being foster parents, but it might have been nice for Tom if his daughters were a little kinder to Tom about taking in Sam, and validate that he's a loving father trying to do his best. They kind of were like "well let's go build that Lego" and walked away.

  • It wanted to be an epic show and it was good, but could have been a lot better.

any of you romos watching that show with the 2 hockey players puckin’ each other? blush

The show (even in the weaker seasons near the end) has so many embedded layers that rewatches make so many more things noticeable and impactful. It will still remain my favorite even though I was not thrilled with all of the decisions and execution of story nearing the end.

What is his views that will change that? Genuinely asking because I was happy about that because I hate Netflix.

Gunn is known for his irreverent, boundary pushing style, and vocal social media presence while Ellison is increasingly associated with a more traditional "pro establishment" corporate identity. Ellison would likely change the script of Supergirl if he could

Ellison has been public about preferring more patriotic content. Don't want to get too political in this thread but Ellison is very political and likes to appease trump

Ugh, I was kind of thinking that with the shows on Paramount but didn't want to jump to conclusions. Hopefully with the money those movies bring in he just lets it be. Thanks for the explanation.

Buckle up for the Taylor Sheridan universe
