August 23Aug 23 Still don't get what the point of preseason even is now if none of the starters play at all anymore even in a limited capacity. Seems like if it's just for evaluating the backups you could basically do it whenever outside of the regular season and it needn't actually be before the season ("pre" name not withstanding). Although this is probably just sour grapes talking because I want real football and not glorified practice squad games.

Okay then.

Okay then.I would hardly consider pre-season to be real game situation since I don't think many teams still take it all that seriously anymore (part of the reason why you don't see many starters playing even a single snap anymore) and it's kinda difficult to get an accurate judge on these prospective starters when it's just backups vs backups (sometimes not even second string vs second string). Like I said they're basically glorified practices (or could also be seen as an extension of college games since its basically just the backups vs backups now), but it is what it is.

He is a starter.

There's no incentive for teams to try to win these games, so teams have started to treat them that way. I have a hard time getting psyched up for these, no matter how starved for football I am, when you have team A being like: "whatever." and team B being like: "yeah, whatever."

Players on the bubble of making a roster might be a little less "whatever".
