Eagles sign former 49ers running back

The Eagles have signed RB Elijah Mitchell, who is familiar with the Shanahan offense, but has struggled to stay healthy.

He was drafted by SF and spent a couple years there so he has familiarity with the "Shannon offense" which it seems we are trying to install.

Not a bad depth signing

Yeah I think that’s a good move. He’s a good RB when healthy and he’ll be what RB #3 here? I do think it’s a bad sign for Shipley potentially though. I think Mitchell is a better RB if he can stay healthy.

I keep forgetting about Shipley, even during the season I forget about him lol. You are right though I think Mitchell is the better back too

Have to wonder how they will sort out the DC there. Shipley was used for returns at times.

I think the organisation like him? I mean he’s played a fair bit on a team that has a very clear star RB. I think they like he can run and catch the ball out of the back field etc. But yeah I mean he doesn’t have that top level burst but he’s a solid enough player and maybe reliability wins him a spot?

Yeah I mean do they carry 4 if they really like Mitchell but aren’t sure if he can hold up? Bigsby has to be a lock surely? He’s a great change up back.

I think the Epenesa signing isn't getting as much buzz as maybe it should. I mean, it's not earth-shattering, but if he proves to be 100% healthy, he can be a really nice depth piece.

That gives us 5 decent Edge Rushers - Greenard, Hunt, Smith, Ebikitie and Epenesa. And many thought we'd bring BG back again this year. Not sure how that can happen unless one of those 5 gets traded (Smith?), hurt, or cut.

Yeah I mean don’t get me wrong it isn’t a huge huge move but I like the move. Obviously he’s not quite had the career hoped but he’s a good player and gives us better depth.

Hondo Carpenter is a Raiders beat writer. This could definitely just be click bait type of stuff but I'm sure Howie would be keeping tabs, at least.

That said - since we've entered the summer doldrums of the NFL, it's interesting to think about what kind of deal it would take to add Crosby and really, if it would even make sense.

Just to entertain the idea of trading for Crosby, the Raiders want 2 first round picks...which is what Baltimore was giving up for him. No way I'd do that. So, for me, any deal would have to include a player good enough to lessen the draft pick capital. I'd wonder what Nolan Smith would fetch in trade value...I'd doubt he'd be valued as a 1st rounder, but a 2nd round pick seems fair. Smith + our 2028 first and 2027 mid-round pick (basically, flip AJ Brown and Smith for Crosby).

I also have this weird feeling that Howie would consider dealing Jalen Carter. Carter for Crosby straight up? Most people think Carter is the next big contract player for us, but if I were Howie I'd at least be looking at it like this...

We will want to re-sign both DeJean and Mitchell and they certainly won't be cheap. And what if Woolen plays so well that it makes Howie want to keep all 3 secondary guys together? Furthermore, what about extending Mojomo to pair with Davis at DT and hope that Robinson or Young continue their development with Uar Bernard possibly rising in a couple years? Are there any long term concerns with Carter? His shoulders?

Would our defense be better with Crosby/Greenard/Hunt at Edge and Davis/Ojomo at DT or Greenard/Smith/Hunt and Davis/Carter? I think that is certainly close enough to consider.

totally agree, he's a good player. Probably means BG does not have a place on the team which is a bummer from a sentimentality standpoint, but if Epenesa is healthy he's a significant upgrade over BG at this point.
