I mean to be fair it makes perfect sense. Eagles surely can’t carry 4 QBs.

It's not much different than last season, is it? We draft a QB on day 3 and add competition so the best 3 make the team. You don't go into TC with only 3 QBs.

Yes, McKee could be dealt in a trade. So could Dalton for that matter. But for now, this gives us the 4 QBs we need in camp.

The rookie could also have a well timed end of preseason injury to red shirt year one as well.

But Dalton is the one they have the most $$$ committed to, isn't he? I know it isn't much so maybe Dalton would be tradable to a team that loses their starter early on?

Howie has said that he could keep 4 QB's on the roster. Ever the poker player, he won't show his hand this time.

The eagles will do whatever they want to do. They can keep 4. They can trade whoever they want now, during Preseason or later.

They can run McKee's contract out at the end of next year. They could extend McKee now, during the year, or at the end of next year.

They are not forced to make a decision on Cole Payton until the end of Preseason roster cuts, as far as where to stash him or carry him.

They could keep Andy Dalton all of 2026 as well, and then either extend him or not.

They will have a better idea of what they have in all the QB's after all or most of the 2026 season goes by.

Will one of the backups be ready in 2027 to take over for QB1 if Howie decides to trade Hurts?

That may be where we are headed in order to extend 3 or 4 defensive players.

If McKee is getting traded, than Dalton may or may not be on the team. Dalton is older and has played for 16 seasons.

if McKee is not traded than McKee stays at 2, and Dalton is getting released.

Payton is a great #3. Sort of younger version of Hurts. 74% completion rate. Very Accurate short to mid Ball delivery. Very mobile. Can and did run the ball.

Would not be surprised if Payton can be utilized in random packages, as a decoy or the second QB on the field. I really like his upside.

Eagles version of Taysom Hill sounds plausible, Is something like that Mannion would consider? It looks like he rushed for 777 yards in 2025. That should warm the cockles of the 'dual threat' crowds hearts.
