The service is available regardless of age, income or other eligibility criteria.During a visit, nurses can help with breastfeeding and newborn care, screen for mental health concerns and substance use, connect families with health care and social supports, and provide referrals for needs including domestic violence, food access and other community resources. Nurses follow up with caregivers by phone two to three weeks later to make sure they were able to connect with services, address barriers and provide additional support. In 2025, Welcome Family offered 1,620 postpartum depression screenings. Of those, 208 screened positive, and every person who screened positive received a referral to services.2 hours ago, DEagle7 said:Nurses for sure. We can arrange VNA for certain patients that need close monitoring already between office visits. I imagine it would work a lot like that just on a bigger scale. Fully agree it's not feasible in a place with a lower concentration of medical professional and more rural populace. So, a free home health nursing visit, more or less.I miss old conservatism. "Hey, do you wanna bish about $2m in gov't spending on free healthcare? Oh, no? Ok, yeah lets bish about "the man" kicking down your door and taking your kid away or something."

The US far outpaces any other moderately wealthy country in maternal and newborn death rates. This is an attempt at addressing that with a free at home nurse visit. If you don't like spending tax money on healthcare fine, but it's about the most benign government program you can imagine. And yet...

In the middle of that conversation people tend to be suspicious when the gov of that state says all new parents will have a visit and inspection regardless of what is on paper.

Make sure she's recovering. No irregular bleeding, signs of infection or retained products, blood pressure isn't spiking etc. but yeah other than that pretty much
