Cornell University Case

We just found out about an incident from April where a neighbor down the street (8th grade girl at the time) went to a house party with her older brother (senior on the hockey team). The rest of the story is second and third hand info but apparently she was given drinks by the hockey players to the point she got really drunk (she weighs less than 80 lbs) and at least, possibly two guys, depending who tells the story, had sex with her. Not sure if anything is going to happen legally or if it was even reported but it's pretty F'ing disgusting that this sort of thing is something that's even on the table of plausible outcomes when a 14 year old girl goes to a party. Obviously the parents should've veto'ed the idea, if they even knew about it, and I would really hope the older brother could've done something in the moment but I have no other information beyond the end result of her being raped. And yes I use the term rape given her age and the fact she was given alcohol despite the fact she drank it willingly.

good lord that's awful. Just looked it up and In PA it's automatically statutory rape if one person is between 13-15 years old and the other is 4 years older. So if they were 18, at the minimum it's statuary rape even if there wasn't any alcohol involved.

Michigan was the over 16 under 18 rule, but not sure what it is now.

The text from the guys offering "free pu$$y” is troubling. At least make those rich Ivy League twerps pay for it.

Dude, I AM INSULTED. Do not refer to Cornell as an Ivy League school!

I never get to make these jokes now that my niece goes there.

Yup. My daughter is 3. Not looking forward to her getting older. My son is 8, also worried for him when it comes to violence and fights. There just seems to be more fights and violence happening at schools these days compared to when we were in school. Could be recency bias, and the fact that now every kid has a cell phone and starts recording it.

Yeah this is why I send my kids to private school and don’t drive a fancy car. Navigating all of the challenges of being a kid in this day and age is hard enough without piling on.

My son goes to public school. He runs these mf'ing streets. He comes home almost daily with a new amazing and/or horrifying fight video that either he took or one of his friends took. One the other day a substitute teacher had a heart attack in the middle of the mayhem. That sheet was sad. Honestly, he kind of loves it, he gets straight A's and he'll be better equipped for life. But it'll be a cold day in hell when I send my daughter public school. She's going private when she gets to middle school.

Bro, what school district are you in?

How the turntables

His evidence is a group chat thread where the girl and the other boys texted each other saying "Matt's passed out, free dick, come get some!" And then @BDawk_ASamuel came runnin excited

Two of them got expelled. There’s a line between being disgusting d-bags (which they clearly were) and committing a crime, which we don’t know for sure happened or not. Her story changed after being uninvited from a Halloween party.

Apparently another big sticking point is that she voluntarily did some drugs (I believe Ketamine) before this went down and there's a law in NY that involves voluntary intoxication not being grounds for inability to consent. The factual details are kinda hard to figure out on that though because the reporting is so hyped up here. I can't imagine if someone is fully unconscious of their own doing you can just go to town legally. But I guess that's one of the big reasons why the initial case didn't go anywhere at the University.

They still saw enough to expel two pieces of ish though, so there must be solid evidence

East Atlanta man. It’s actually a pretty good school but it’s still kind of inner city.

Fixed

* the names of men

* the existence of a GroupMe fraternity group chat where frat brothers were discussing what happened

* two women at the house that night said the fraternity brothers assured them the incident was consensual — and later asked one of them not to talk about it

* a screen recording of a Snapchat conversation among Chi Phi members from that night, where one advertised "free p----y” in an upstairs bedroom

* a caller said one of the men identified was her ex-boyfriend, and he told her that he "had attended a party at Chi Phi” where a woman had been "sexually assaulted by several males and coerced into consuming ketamine and other drugs.”

And more.

Much of the information was never passed on to the Tompkins County DA Office.

Is there any legal precedent for "Not guilty by reason of sodomy?"

This could be an awkward way to find out one of the other 6 guys was gay.

They’re calling it the HeToo movement
