Lane Johnson retires....

And with this news, I think this is the nail in the coffin for this era's version of the Eagles. I'm seeing at least of couple of years of mediocrity before the Eagles can become relevant again. But the dominant teams of the Sirianni era - looks like that door is shut.

There are a lot of current injuries to overcome, but lowering expectations for this team, might just be what they need. Some young players are going to get a real chance to prove something. Some may not be up to the challenge, but some usually are. Right now, I don't know what to expect, but it won't surprise me if were a much better team in the 2nd half of the season. Of course the opposite won't exactly shock me either based on all the recent bad news piling up and the poor play we have seen.

Lane knows the team is imploding. He knows Siri is a control freak that won't let Mannion run his scheme.

He know Hurts can't play QB unless he has all elite linemen, wr's and TE. Its over. Even Howie blew the entire

draft. The org is going backwards now, and Lane wants to keep his mental health, so he has to leave the sheeeit show

time to hope for a top 10 draft pick lol

Am I the only one who thinks this somewhat tarnishes his legacy? You had all offseason to make this decision…& you quit on the team 2 hrs before kickoff Sunday? And with 13 games left?

Idk Man

Damn gonna miss you Lane :(.

Lane was a hell of a player, best RT in football and should be a first ballot HOF'er. Such ashame it ended like this.

Welp...time to start scouting some college players and making mock drafts...

I don't think it tarnishes it, but he definitely should've retired in the offseason. It's a business though, so you have to remember that this is a job for these players, and stuff like this happens in the workplace. At least now expectations can be low. Maybe it turns out to be a good thing, lol

Lane has been in playing decline for the last 5 years. He's been far more seriously injured in 3 of them. Howie, the FO have ignored drafting a capable replacement or backup. This is something they should have been preparing for the last 3 seasons.

I don't know what he is dealing with in his personal life. If he is not able to commit to the team then he can walk. Wishing all the best for Lane.

People saying Johnson quit on the team or that he owes the team, are beyond the pail.

He stated he has mental health issues and family issues. That guy won us 2 Super Bowl over 14 years. He has every right to retire on his own terms. He isn't super man. He is man who has problems. If you can't accept that, then there is something wrong with you.

I wonder what the issue with his parents is, I hope everything works out for him and his family. Hate seeing a player retire like this.

It seems like this season we are paying the piper for all the success we’ve had recently. I hope the team can rally but with Lane gone, the leadership will be non existent.

I think I read that his mom has hodgkins lymphoma.

If true thats a big deal and could certainly be affecting his mental/ emotional health.

Gonna miss him and the birds will but hes choosing his own health and we'll being of his family over football and hes not the first nor will he be the last and it's not like he stepped away in his prime or from a team in the midst of a super bowl run so, good luck to him going forward, he'll be missed.

I've heard similar. Id advise him to do the same in that case. That time is precious.

The Mental Health aspect is seriously a factor. Heck, I’ve been dealing with it for almost two years. Turned to alcohol, drugs, rehab, meds, therapy, etc…

I couldn’t imagine having to play Professional Sports with a mental health issue.

Get and be well, Lane. Please.

Reggie is still #1 All-Time Eagles Player

Lane is 2nd as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for everything.

You are not the only one because a lot of really dumb people follow the Eagles.

Dawk, Chuck, Foles and Kelce all ahead

I love Dawk. He did nothing in the SB of note and he did not have Lane's career.

Hell of a player and top 5 Eagle.

Kelce is also a legend, but he is not the player that Lane was and he doesn't have 2 rings.

The 2 years Kelce had before Lane were 8-8 and 4-12. Lane dominated and won another SB on an 18-3 team.

Chuck was a beast, has 2 rings, and 9 All-Pros. They might be 2 and 2a or Lane might be 3rd.

I did not watch him play but he has all the awards.

I might be the #1 Foles guy on these boards... Hell no!

Foles is not even Hurts level.
