I keep hearing that the girl starts off as 007 because James Bond is retired, and Bond comes out of retirement and eventually gets his 007 number back.

That's how it looks in the trailer.  I remember this was discussed on the old EMB in the topic about this.

Plus the producer Barbara Broccoli in interviews this year has said there will never be a female James Bond.  Lashana Lynch plays a new 00 agent and James comes out of retirement (or from the looks of it at the beginning of the trailer is perhaps presumed dead.

In January:

James Bond Exec Explains Why There Will Never Be A Female Bond

He can be of any color, but he is male. I believe we should be creating new characters for women - strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.

Then last month:

https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2556864/james-bond-boss-explains-why-daniel-craigs-replacement-hasnt-been-found-yet

James Bond Boss Explains Why Daniel Craig’s Replacement Hasn’t Been Found Yet

Quote

Producer Barbara Broccoli revealed why his replacement has not been picked out with these words:

I always say: you can only be in love with one person at a time. Once the film’s come out, then some time will pass, and then we’ll have to get on to the business of the future. But for now, we just cannot think about anything beyond Daniel.

It will have to be reimagined, in the way each actor has reimagined the role. That’s what is so exciting and fun about this franchise; the character evolves. Eventually, when we have to think about it, we’ll find the right person.

It could just be her dancing around it, that James Bond character won't be changed to a female but that the replacement 007 can be a female and that's what this movie sets up.  I guess we'll find out.

Should be great based on the every other Bond movie is great and the next is a let down. Quantum of Solace and Spectre were not very good, while Casino Royale and Skyfall were awesome. Fingers crossed the pattern holds

This was v good. I feel like the first 2 hours or so were just not stop cray cray that breezed by. The last 40 was more average and I wouldn’t haven’t minded an additional 20 to flesh it out a little more, but overall I was very pleased with what’s allegedly Craig’s final performance in the role.

So I went and saw this tonight. I'm somewhere between thinking it was average and completely hating it. I'm probably leaning towards the latter the more I think about it.

Spoiler

I liked it. I'm ready for the next bond. I think Idris would be great but they'll probably want to go younger

I just hope the next Bond is more techy like the Pierce Brosnan bond

Spoiler

Lately I have seen Henry Cavill for next Bond. And prior to that, I have also read he could be on the outs for the role of the Witcher.

I think he would do a good job

More Idris Elba rumors...but not as Bond, as a new recurring character that might be a villain.

https://hypebeast.com/2021/11/idris-elba-next-james-bond-film-in-talks

Quote

According to additional sources such as The Sun, Elba is currently in conversation to discuss taking on a role in the franchise in the next Bond film. A source told the news outlet, "Idris has had informal talks with the studio and he has been told there is a role in the next Bond film for him, if he wants it. He won’t be the title character, but they do recognize the amount of pull and respect he commands, and they want to work with him on a completely original character for the next installment.” It was also confirmed that discussions are only at the very early stages, but "it looks like it would be the role of a villain.”

I agree, I don't think Cavill would be good as Bond.

I liked the direction of a more "gritty" Bond that Daniel Craig did.  Still able to dress up in a tux, but less "polished" and more rough around the edges.  Remember when the movie XXX made fun of the tuxedo spy that can't fit in, I think they did a good job with Craig's Bond to balance out modernizing while keeping some good traditional pieces.

They need to avoid big popular names.  Daniel Craig wasn't as well known when they casted him and he grew into the role.  Maybe find another actor ready to make that leap.

I’m thinking Tom Holland as the new Bond. I can picture it now:

’Hey Mr. M, I’m ready to go on some real missions.  I’m ready Mr. M, just give me a chance.’

I guess Cumberbatch has aged out, or he would be another obvious choice.

He's been mentioned along with Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston.  I don't think people think through what would make a good actor for the role they just think popular white British actors.

Making a movie about Rick Grimes.  Also he'd be an even worse choice for Bond than any other name mentioned so far.

lol

it was a joke because of the Henry Cavil comments earlier.

So they talked about a female Bond, a Black bond, why not a skinny Bond with terrets who screams CORL all the time?
