December 15, 20205 yr A doctorate (from Latin docere, "to teach") or doctor's degree (from Latin doctor, "teacher") or doctoral degree, is an academic degree awarded by universities, derived from the ancient formalism licentia docendi ("licence to teach"). In most countries, it is a research degree that qualifies the holder to teach at university level in the degree's field, or to work in a specific profession. There are a number of doctoral degrees; the most common is the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), which is awarded in many different fields, ranging from the humanities to scientific disciplines. Whoever wrote the oped was certainly entitled to do so, but I feel some people do it for attention and should just STFU. Yesterday's piece was dumb, IMO, I know what DR mean and that's all the time I wish to give it. Glad to see you guys have moved on as well

There's nothing wrong with recognizing that not all doctorates are made equal. But fixating on what someone refers to themselves as (as long as it's not a lie) is just petty AF. I did have a cousin who started calling herself a doctor after 1 year of dental school and that was a bridge too far for me though.

Bravo. Merely a metaphor for the new first lady comparing to the old one, her husband's effect on the country, and the behavior of all his supporters in the past 6 weeks.

December 15, 20205 yr I wasn't grossed out, I watched the baby crown and make its way out each time. But I let the professionals cut the cord. We also did the cord blood thing, I didn't want to screw it up.

December 15, 20205 yr Author If you watched your wife’s vadge expand to a 10 cm circumference, but then got grossed out cutting the cord that’s pretty weird.

December 15, 20205 yr I watched it happen and cut the chord...and ate the placenta Also, both of my kids were born on a weekend in the fall, so it was like picture-in-picture. I had the game on while the kids were popping out. It was great.

We were told those were falling out of favor because of often doing more harm than good. I don't know much about them beyond there's no F'ing way I'd watch one of those either. It would be totally different if it was someone else's wife and someone else's kid, but the psychological effect of that being my wife and kid just gross me out even more.

The threshold and technique to do one has changed, but they're still appropriately used sometimes. It's horrifying but if you're worried about the infant getting stuck and that the woman is going to tear anyway it can still be used to expedite delivery and have better outcome for the baby. 2 hours ago, we_gotta_believe said: "Psst, hey while you're down there, put an extra stitch or two in, if ya know whatta mean" It literally used to be called "the husband stitch" as Fed up as that is. Old school doctors had no chill.

December 15, 20205 yr Ok. I’ll tell ya. Had 2. Night and day. 1st one water broke had immediate hard labor. BP was high was on my side between contractions. 4-5 hrs baby was out. With forcepts. Got sowed up crooked. Could never trust a fart for the next 7 years and no one at a check up said anything. Not horrible but annoying. Number 2 you think you know better but you don’t. Water broke and no labor. After several hours of nothing I called and went in. All night, barely any labor. Change of shift they start inducing Med. It was working. Couple of hours later getting an epidural that doc asks me how tall I am. I gave a wrong answer cause you know. Check the damn chart I don’t know! Think I overdosed as I started to tank-one bp reading was 80/50. I got more meds 2xs for that and some O2. Felt better and God told me not to shut my eyes. Got better quickly and followed the machine to get him out. 4 hrs again. This doc sowing me up took extra time to fix me. Meds were wearing off but no way was I taking anything more so last 2 or so stitches I could finally feel. Earlier I was numb up to my collar bone. These docs deserve credit. They have to be ready to react with the right decision in an instant.
