The profession is getting taken back over by midwives. Ffs, whoever wrote that doesn’t know ish about F. Funny part is, you should kinda have a doctorate yourself if you are getting on that soap box. He doesn't.

December 15, 20205 yr 10 minutes ago, Bill said: Well, who considers periodontists doctors, anyway? Their parents I guess? But that's not the same. OBGYNs do surgery. Pretty complicated surgery in some cases (pelvic anatomy is complex). And even if you're only focusing on deliveries they're still the only ones doing C sections. Gotta be trained to go from incision to baby in about 5 minutes in urgent cases. Midwives aren't taking that over. As far as ease of getting into and ease of the job one your there it's pretty middle of the road for medical fields.

If you're talking testing scores all things being equal it's surgical specialists at the top, internal medicine and OBGYN are in the middle, peds and psych are at the bottom. Compensation and work satisfaction wise later on OBGYN tends to be higher than generalist internal med docs but not as high as the more competitive specialists (eg cardiologist and gastroenterology) . I spent 15 minutes convincing a new mom that hiccups are ok yesterday. Usually what I do isn't that complicated. I'm ok with that.

But we’ve actually vacationed together a few times now.

Usually that just means the kid got into the liquor cabinet. Just move the expensive stuff up where the kid can't reach. Problem solved. That'll be $125.

Yeah but I'd imagine the type of, shall we say vachine clientele(?), is quite different between an OBGYN's office, and a strip club.

Yeah, I was just messing around. I wouldn't want to perform Pap smears on old ladies all day. And honestly, strip clubs are pretty sad in their own way too.

December 15, 20205 yr With academic doctorates its all about the context. When I teach (I adjunct for my alma mater), especially undergrads, I go by doctor. In my regular job, I'm around surgeons all day so I wouldn't even think about it. Most of those guys insist on being called Dr (though amazingly it's women surgeons and minority men who almost always want you to call them by their first names). It's cool that the first lady earned an academic doctorate and after the bubble headed trophy wife we've had as a first lady, I think it's more than appropriate to call her Dr. Biden. It was a stupid editorial.

There's nothing wrong with recognizing that not all doctorates are made equal. But fixating on what someone refers to themselves as (as long as it's not a lie) is just petty AF. I did have a cousin who started calling herself a doctor after 1 year of dental school and that was a bridge too far for me though. 2 hours ago, DrPhilly said: I'm betting this can be a lot harder at time than one may think True, but at that point it's more a customer service job vs than a trained skill. December 15, 20205 yr Wow you guys.. you've turned a discussion about an accomplished woman who has earned her doctorate into strippers, pooping and bleeding vagines. Bravo.
