April 26, 20205 yr I've heard national sportscasters call it the Philly Special when it was run last season in the NFL. I love how this is now the official name of this play!

He is not NFL ready so we are still going to need a back up. You see things; and you say 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say 'Why not?' George Bernard Shaw
April 26, 20205 yr I like the philosophical idea. I just don’t like the move for two reasons: 1. It was too early for a guy of Hurts’ skill. 2. By all accounts, Hurts is a tremendous guy/leader. Will the locker room become divided? It sounds like it’s already becoming divided.

How different would this draft had looked if Hopkins was already here as the WR1. The 1st rounder could have been used by taking the highest impact defensive player available instead of reaching for a WR. How would this draft look if the Eagles had Murray or Queen and Hopkins instead of Reagor and Hurts. The rest of the draft would be gravy. This is what separates Roseman from the great GM's and organizations. He's great at the little fringe moves (turning one late pick into 3 or 4) and value signings and trades, but when it comes to really moving the needle, his drafts virtually always leave much to be desired. And drafting is what separates the men from the boys. Look at how the Ravens and Niners, both playoff teams picking near the bottom of the draft, managed this draft to see how it is done. Hell, look at Dallas - everybody here can make fun of Jones' yacht and whatever else, but that group knows how to draft difference making players, and seems to do it every year. As long as Lurie remains tethered to Roseman, I'm afraid this is what we're going to see. Much like Reid proved over and over, this is what Roseman is, and it isn't suddenly going to change or improve. He's a valuable guy to have in a front office, but is in way over his head as a GM. They didn’t reach. He was going 21-28 in most mocks. 1 hour ago, Uscg-green said: Everyone comparing this to Rodgers or Brady forget that Wentz is 27 years old. This was the stupidest pick ever. You want a back up? Sign Flacco. They’re tired of signing one year bandaids. See below. 1 hour ago, mermel said: The Eagles traditionally have paid a lot of the salary cap to the backup QB. If things go well, we'll pay the backup 1.5M a year for the next 4 years. That's a good savings that we can use other places. And Wentz does have an injury history. I don't think the brass are expecting another 2017, but it's pretty likely that Wentz will miss a stretch of games every couple years. Hurts means we have a chance of winning some of those. This. 1 minute ago, SBorBust said: I like the philosophical idea. I just don’t like the move for two reasons: 1. It was too early for a guy of Hurts skill 2. April 26, 20205 yr I think I’m processing this pick better. I find that I am too loyal to current Eagles players. I love Carson, he’s obviously an incredible QB but to deny that he doesn’t get hurt often is a disservice to this team. We don’t want to give up on a HOF-talent because he has been hurt but we also want to make sure we don’t surrender seasons because of our loyalty to Carson. I get it. Just sucks.

There are quality back ups available in free agency. You don't waste 2nd round picks on back ups. 1 minute ago, SBorBust said: I think you still have to sign Flacco. We get it, you don’t like it. Carson isn’t a guy who’s gonna play until he’s 36, 37, 38. Would anyone be really shocked if he experiences another concussion, ACL, etc if he pulled a Luck? I wouldn’t be. Carson is a simple dude who may decide at 31, 32 that he’s done. 5 years from now Hurts is 26 and has years of experience in the offense under his belt.

They drafted him because they think he can be a top-level starting QB not just an average backup. That is, if the unthinkable happens, he can start and be a very good starter. It is our reality and I am coming to terms with it. It is the price they think must be paid to have a QB like Carson and, you know what, I think Carson is worth it.

I don’t love it either, but I get it. It’s the most important position in sports. Carson has had three seasons in a row he hasn’t finished, and the season is getting longer (and may get longer again). I’m way more excited about the possibility of Hurts coming in then Sudfeld or McCown or Flacco.

Last year doesn't count. He was fine all year until a cheap shot artist went head hunting. 2 minutes ago, Thrive said: They drafted him because they think he can be a top-level starting QB not just an average backup. To bad we already have one and you can't use two.

And even if it did, it's much more likely with Flacco than a College unfinished project. I watched him in college. Alot. I don't think he is even the back up this year. Bingo yes. It's a nice story but not one that'll be repeated. If they have doubts over Wentz due to injuries then why the F did they give him that contract.

Fine, I’ll spend high picks on back-up options to Carson. But Carson needs to be unleashed and not held back. Let him play his way and let whatever happens happens.

People must have some awesome sources.

April 26, 20205 yr In hindsight, it would seem $16 million to Foles and trading Wentz for a mountain of picks would have been better for the future of the franchise.

Predicting it would say "yeah I think at 30 he’ll pull the pin.” You’re predicting Hurts will suck and cause a controversy and yada yada yada. So what’s your source, Barbara Walters? Also I said "sound like”, I don’t you to say you ARE anything. Reading comprehension, try it.
