I agree with BW36 ... that is a perfect analogy.  

Or the football player that gets an lucrative contract and then allows that to go to his head and does all the wrong things ... no longer doing what he needs to do to get better (studying film, working out, nose in the playbook) and instead concerns himself with partying and having fun and next thing you know he is broke and out of work with no team wanting to sign him (Johnny Football).
