June 5, 20205 yr unfortunately the sycophantic voter base of Trumpbots is still around 1/3 of the people, and if you criticize dear leader you'll be kneecapped in November in many places. so don't expect any republicans from solidly blue state to risk the wrath of this president on something is politically unpopular as taking a principled stance.

Good publicity/bad publicity, it doesn't matter. I would never give Trump credit for thinking through anything tangible like the intricacies or effects of a policy or how to get a deal done, but the one thing he understands is marketing.

I don't think he has the ability to prognosticate what is and isn't perceived as outrageous. I think it's more likely he just says the stupid sh** that happens to wander into his empty head randomly.

It's the same trick over and over again, so he's not redesigning the wheel here, but he knows it works. I've always thought constantly calling Trump's divisive BS 'stupid' did kind of a disservice to how disgusting and unAmerican it is. It gives him a bit of a pass for it, like he's not an old man who has 75 years of experience in this world to teach him the difference between what is and isn't acceptable. He knows what he wants to say, by and large, he just has no idea how he's going to get there. But he planned that line out, even if the particulars weren't thought through.

June 5, 20205 yr Author Quote Pointing to ongoing concerns like the federal government's handling of the coronavirus crisis, Kelly said the nation needs to be more serious about vetting the character of candidates for public office. "I do think that we're a little bit out of balance relative to how the country's functioning and how American citizens are looking at their government," Kelly said. "I think we really need to step back. I think we need to look harder at who we elect. I think we should start, all of us, regardless of what our views are in politics, I think we should look at people that are running for office and put them through the filter. What is their character like? What are their ethics? Are they willing, if they're elected, to represent all of their constituents, not just the base, but all of their constituents? And then look at the politics." bam!
