So if Garland is appointing a special counsel, I'm thinking that means that Garland believes he has enough to charge and convict. Now, they show this all to an independent party to make the decision. I'd be surprised if he weren't charged at this point.

Trump's kids gave me raise after learning of tax cheating, ex-CFO testifies

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Donald Trump's children did not discipline the Trump Organization's longtime chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg and even raised his salary after learning in 2017 he cheated on taxes for more than a decade, Weisselberg testified on Friday at the company's criminal tax fraud trial.

I don't see the need for a Special Prosecutor. They have all the evidence they need. Arrest the mf'er and let a jury decide. 2 yrs. is too long.

I don't think he needs it either. But I can really think of two reasons why Garland would name special counsel. Typically it is because DOJ would be conflict of interest. As in the Mueller probe, after Trump fired FBI Director Comey there were deep conflicts within the department. So do the charges involve DOJ? If not, then is it political? Garland was hired by Trump's successor. He would want independent counsel to review the charges to remove any claims of bias/witch-hunt that will be sure to follow.

Republican congress has no oversight or power over a special prosecutor. Democrats are nerdy and dweeby but they know what they’re doing.

I certainly hope they manage to get the funding squared away before January.

Reality stars Todd and Julie Chrisley received sentences Monday for their convictions on charges of bank fraud and tax evasion.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, plus 16 months on probation. His wife and co-star on Chrisley Knows Best was handed down a sentence of seven years, as well as 16 months of probation.

In June, the couple were convicted of having inflated their net worth in order to secure more than $30 million in fraudulent loans. They were also found to have dodged their taxes since as early as 2009 and to have hidden their earnings from the show from the IRS. (In fact, their accountant, Peter Tarantino, was convicted of filing false reports for them. He was sentenced to three years in prison.) Julie was also found guilty of committing wire fraud and obstruction of justice.

Can't wait for Tax Returns to be made Public.

Supreme Court OKs handover of Trump tax returns to Congress

The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for the imminent handover of former President Donald Trump's tax returns to a congressional committee after a three-year legal fight.

The court, without comment, rejected Trump's plea for an order that would have prevented the Treasury Department from giving six years of tax returns for Trump and some of his businesses to the Democratic-controlled House Ways and Means Committee.

The Treasury Department had refused to provide the records during Trump's presidency. But the Biden administration said federal law is clear that the committee has the right to examine any taxpayer's return, including the president's.

Lower courts agreed that the committee has broad authority to obtain tax returns and rejected Trump’s claims that it was overstepping and only wanted the documents so they could be made public.

Chief Justice John Roberts imposed a temporary freeze on Nov. 1 to allow the court to weigh the legal issues raised by Trump's lawyers and the counter arguments of the administration and the House of Representatives.

How many times have the courts "cleared the way" for Trump's tax returns to be released?

It was the Supreme Court, this time.

The SC has weighed in multiple times on this. Sometimes for the Manhattan DJ, other times for the Jan 6 committee. It seems like the same goddamn fight every time.

The court offered no explanation for the decision. There was no noted dissent or vote breakdown.

The move would appear to be the end of the road for Trump in the years long saga of a House subpoena for his tax records in the stated interest of drafting oversight legislation.
