We agree, but I think DeSantis had a good chance (thankfully), and this could upend that. Straight up in a two man race I still think (hope) DeSantis could win, but the problem is all the idiots who have no shot draining votes away. This may push some people on the fence towards him.

What ever happened with the DOJ and the files he had as well? That or GA would be preferable IMO to a porn star payoff, which could be legitimate, but what is the likelihood of conviction vs giving him free publicity, energizing his 5th Ave supporters, people getting hurt, and him getting off and using it to his advantage?

These are all separate entities. What you're suggesting (that the NY DA hold off while waiting for the DoJ or the Fulton County DA to make their move first) would be collusion. Some cases take longer to build than others. We don't have much insight into the process so all we can hope for is that their case is indeed solid and robust. But even if he gets off on this, it has no bearing on his potential guilt in the other cases.

I think he’ll get indicted in both NY and GA (although that dough head jury foreperson on the GA grand jury doesn’t exactly lend credibility to their case).

Trump can run in the primaries; what people forget is he’s running for the party nomination.  The party at some point can grow a conscience or brain cells and reject him.  They’re so terrified of him running as a 3rd candidate, though, it "trumps” whatever decency they have

Slim to none, since the GA charges are almost certainly coming on the heels of this.

Also, it’s not at all to his advantage in the general. Only in the primary. He’s already lost the general and this only makes that loss even worse. It’s really in the Republican’s court. They have the power to elect someone who’s not under indictment and who has a chance against Biden. But I seriously doubt they’ll do it.

Yeah, I think Elon must be smoking today to say he is going to win in a landslide. It's not like the women who hate him are going to say....oh...he was charged for paying off a porn star he had an affair with? That makes me want to vote for him!

They have the chance, but again, his supporters aren't moving away from him while someone like DeSantis has his votes drained by people who have no shot. Remember, in 2016 it could have been Cruz or a broken convention because Trump wouldn't have gotten over the line, but Johny K stayed in the race and suck enough away from him. That's why Romney was telling everyone to vote for Cruz towards the end.

Many (conservative) women voted for him despite, not because of, numerous allegations that somehow made him still preferable to Hillary.

Trump has taken on the identity of permanent victim in the minds of lots of conservatives. So no matter how much evidence of wrongdoing, malfeasance, or traitorous behavior is produced these people will fall back on "it's just a conspiracy to bring Trump down" and they dig in even further defending him.

Because at this point they're so committed to the narrative that their brains would literally break if they ever had to actually reassess their support for Trump. I mean that seriously. It's an unspoken about mental health crisis.

I don’t think DeSantis is running. He’s too smart for that.

They've had so many chances to do so and balked every single time. Trump is who the voters want, so Trump is who the party gets. It truly is that simple. DeSantis is a pipedream, his best shot was to cozy up for a chance to be the VP on the ticket and bide his time for '28 but instead he went for the gusto and it's gonna backfire in a big way.

Trump and Putin both getting warrants

Well, then you have people like me who were Never Trump, thought he did a good job in office outside the constant Twitter BS and his mouth, then stopped being able to separate the two and am tired of his BS and want him to go away ASAP.

We'll see. Between the book and his speaking engagements I'm pretty sure he's in.

No, I was a big Cruz guy and couldn't stand him at first. It wasn't until the election when I came around like Mark Levin. People like Glen Beck were the same way, but that's another guy I can't stand.

yup. I do think there are plenty of people who are in your camp to prevent another general election win, which is why the Republican party is fu**ed if Trump runs no matter what happens. if he wins the nomination he will almost certainly lose the general, and if he loses the primary he will sabotage whichever Republican nominee ends up being.

a lot can happen in 18 mos or so but Democrats have to be pretty strongly favored to win the white house in 2024 regardless of the candidate.

I actually think he played it pretty well, assuming he doesn’t run this cycle. If he waits until ‘28, he’s set up perfectly.

Ok fair, thought you were trying to imply you were never a supporter of his, which we all know is false.

No, I sadly got into many fights with many of you over him. I can't fix that but I'm not supporting him again.

I know a lot of people think DeSantis is somehow smart, and in many ways he is. But I think his approach here is a total loser, and he's blowing his real chance which would be in 2028.

If he was actually smart he'd let the party stay in the wilderness this cycle and focus on how to remain relevant for another four years.

I think he runs, he's too far in now to bow out gracefully, but Lord knows these mouth breathers don't give a ish about that sort of thing anyways. If optics ever mattered to them, President dipsheet would've never been elected in the first place.

I think DeSantis is 100% running barring some crazy reveal like he bangs underage dudes. (FWIW I think if it came out he banged underage girls he would still be in the running in this iteration of the Republican party)

He's already holding what would be considered campaign rallies. Of course that's exposing him as a pretty wooden speaker with a nasally voice, which isn't gonna win him a lot. He'd be better playing as a Caesar where he feigns disinterest in running for president and comes in late after voters "beg" him to throw his hat in.

The less DeSantis interacts directly with voters the better his chances are. Which isn't a good trait in a presidential candidate.

 He has degrees from Yale and Harvard. He’s not stupid, he’s just a virtue signaling wanna-be authoritarian.

I guess we’ll see. I expect him to look around and see that Trump’s inevitable, whether he’s under indictment or in prison, and his best play is to sit this one out.

Hillary would have been president if Johnny K would have gotten out of the primary. I'm not sure he would have won enough states to keep it from a brokered convention, which is why Romney and others were trying to get people to go Cruz.

No chance he bows out. I'd bet if DeSantis does beat him he tells his people to stay home and sink him

that's why I said "in many ways he is [smart]", but I'm disagreeing that his political strategy here is smart. it's impatient, not smart.

I mean, that's just like - my opinion man.. but I see his approach here as stupid. it's at best a path to win the Republican nomination, but right now things that are required to win the Republican nomination can be toxic in the general.
