June 10, 20205 yr Absolutely crazy town. One can absolutely practice as they choose; however, if you are putting it out there as a campaign platform with props, then we can all judge him on his faith or lack thereof.
June 10, 20205 yr https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/10/politics/trump-campaign-cnn-poll/index.html Quote President Donald Trump's campaign is demanding CNN retract and apologize for a recent poll that showed him well behind presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. The demand, coming in the form of a cease and desist letter to CNN President Jeff Zucker, was immediately rejected by the network."We stand by our poll," said Matt Dornic, a CNN spokesman. WAAAA!!

June 10, 20205 yr I got SiriusXM after they offered the free month and have been listening to Howard Stern a lot. He can't fathom what Trump thinks with all the lying. It's weird. He lied about the "huge" crowd at his inauguration. The lies about the bunker. The "not wearing a mask movement." I just don't get it. Why lie? Is Trump that insecure that he has to lie, and blatantly, about everything? So he was told he and his family should go to the bunker. Whoopdeedoo. At the time protesters were close to storming the White House. I wouldn't have needed anyone to tell me. I would have gotten down there as fast as possible. Saying George (couldn't even say his last name) would be happy with the economy? What is that? I know politicians lie. Presidents have lied. But to lie about such small things. And now this with the CNN polling not being real (#fakenews). I'm not political, but I don't know why Trump thinks if he shows an ounce of empathy it's a sign of weakness. His paranoia is above politics.

He's spent his whole life being a con man who lies constantly and is obsessed with his public perception. He is incapable of accepting ANY criticism.

You have to balance not trying to diminish the impact of a phrase without trying to be diminutive about a situation. Not all cases of assault/racism/rape are equally egregious while still deserving the term. It's a hard line to draw and in this situation I guess we draw them in different places. I can buy that we won't draw the lines in the same place. Do you buy that common understanding of the meaning of terms (especially these kind of terms) is important? How else can we have clear communication?

And I agree with your sentiment that terms get watered down at times and we should choose our words carefully. But there is an inherent range present in almost all terms. Undressing and fondling a passed out drunk date and drugging someone and dragging them to an alley to have sex with are both forms of rape. Punching someone and taking a crowbar to their kneecaps are both forms of assault. Dropping a racial slur at a sports game and dressing up in a white sheet to burn crosses on people's yards are both forms of racism. In all cases the former are less severe forms of the latter, but IMO to call them anything other than the term at hand is diminutive of the act itself even if it's "the lesser offense".

In football we have "running into the kicker" and "roughing the kicker". I think that works pretty well. Don't you? Is a white lady with corn rows racist?
