Watching the GOP come out and attack Bragg when we have no details is...something. Yeah, when he ran for office, he talked about indicting Trump, and that was wrong. This is why I personally think DAs and judges shouldn't be elected positions -- those who are entrusted to enforce the law shouldn't have to campaign for votes. But at this point, one group is going to look awfully stupid on Tuesday. I hope that Bragg knows that he HAS to win this case if he brings it. He declined to move forward a year ago and two of his top prosecutors quit in protest. I wonder what has changed in the last 12 months. If he decided to move forward with the same basic case that he deemed weak a year ago, then it's political and he's an idiot. If he has new evidence, then...let's see it. Wasn't Michael Cohen already convicted for this crime? The only way Trump could be innocent of any wrong doing is if he had no knowledge of Cohen's actions. If your mind is open to that possibility, ok, but mine is not.

Well...my mind's open to the possibility of a defense lawyer creating a reasonable argument that Trump has no knowledge of anything at anytime.

Cohen actually wrote the checks and plead guilty. The key will be can they PROVE Trump had knowledge of the falsification of business records. Do I think he did? Of course. But they need to be able to prove it in court, because there won't be a plea deal. I'd also like to see if there are conspiracy charges as well.
March 31, 20232 yr How much more, if at all, would all this matter if there is proof he used campaign funds for the payoff? Just a thought.

I agree with all of that. The DA would have to be a world class moron if he didn't have a ton of evidence, but that's certainly possible.

The this is the huge concern. If Bragg proceeded because he felt political pressure, and the case is ultimately weak, it's a bad situation. If he told his team "this isn't good enough" and the past year yielded a level of evidence impossible for Trump's team to defend, then I'll pour one out for him. But even if the case is that strong I would have preferred to see this one slow walked while Georgia turns up the heat. Let that indictment come first. It's FAR more serious and damning.

Cohen isn't a great witness though. Your reasoning is sound, but if you're indicting a former president your case better be air -f'ing-tight. They can afford to shoot and miss on prosecuting 100 Cohen's, but you miss one Trump and you're done.

Trump is unindicted Co-Conspirator # 1. A Judge in the case concluded # 1 was guilty of crimes.
