Probably the first of many delay tactics. Trump will demand a longer schedule for his new counsel to get up to speed.

Well that sucks if accurate. Trump guaranteed to be nominated and uses this to grift for two years with essentially no cost until after the election. Would have been better to wait.

With this judge, the DOJ will have to constantly appeal her rulings. The time for the trial just doubled.

Yep. She's the reason why the indictment didn't happen 3-4 months ago, or even earlier.

A bit terse and lacking flair. DrPhilly wins today's face-off. Hopefully pitchbot comes back tomorrow with something better.

You have a truth social account?

the non-satire version of that is the rally around the flag effect.

I suspect some number of those who are "Trumpy but ready to move on" will rally to Trump now.

but I have to think (hopefully) that the moderates who are just truly sick of Trump will not vote for him in a general.

16 months to the election.

Trump isn't going to win a general election .... unless there is mass electoral fraud

Full disclosure -- I believe there was electoral fraud in 2016 that got him elected, and the Republican outcry following the 2020 election was a direct result of either:

a)  The same thing was tried and thwarted in 2020, or

b)  The same thing was done in 2020 but they weren't expecting 80M+ voters to turnout to vote for Biden

I don't think he's as popular for repubs as people in cvon think

Trying to equate Trump and Biden in these cases is so ridiculously dishonest, it's beyond words. Sadly, most people are morons and will fall for it.

Biden's lawyers found records at Penn while packing boxes (the documents were in a locked closet), notified NARA and turned them over. Biden's lawyers searched his personal residence in response to this and voluntarily turned over what they found (in garage and another room at his house in Wilmington), about a half dozen documents. The special counsel was appointed, and Biden's lawyers and the DOJ found roughly a dozen more documents after a search and they were all turned over. Biden has fully cooperated the whole time, and has stated he hasn't seen the docs and wasn't aware he had them.

Did Biden technically break the law? Yes. Taking the material is illegal. Pence technically broke the law as well. But intent matters -- neither were aware they had the info, and both immediately turned it over when discovered.

Trump refused to turn over documents voluntarily, and he clearly KNEW he had documents that he wasn't allowed to possess. He also tried to obstruct the investigation, hence the conspiracy charge.

We need to stop this both siding nonsense to try and normalize Trump's actions.

Plus, I think people overrate the consequences of what would happen for the Republican Party if they dumped Trump.  After all, the candidates in the primaries are running for the nomination of the party -- the party can (and should), at any time, publicly rebuke any candidate they don't feel aligns with party platform or values.  They can even instruct delegates that such candidate will not be nominated by the Party at the convention.

I don't believe at this point that Trump would even run as a third party or independent candidate.  I don't think he's got enough core support around him without the Republican Party to organize and assemble a coherent team to get himself on the ballot.

Now would be the time for the "never-Trumpers" in the Party to get aligned and pressure the RNC to remove their support of him as a candidate.  I think we all know they're not going to do it, though.

That ain't good

WASHINGTON, June 9 (Reuters) - Two lawyers defending Donald Trump on federal charges of illegally retaining classified documents quit the case on Friday and a former aide was charged as well in surprise developments one day after the former U.S. president was indicted.

Trusty was on CNN defending him last night. I know they say they tendered their resignations, but I wonder if that's because Trump demanded they resign. He likely had a meltdown that he got indicted and they didn't make this go away.

Also, this could easily just be the first of many delay tactics. Ask for time for the new lawyers to get up to speed, so start of trial pushed off. Trump's play here will be to push this past 1/20/25, because he is convinced he will win (Trump is incapable of seeing risk and downside, as evidenced by pretty much every investment he has ever made). Delay and then pardon himself is the plan.

if the 2024 election turns into basically voting whether or not cheeto goes to prison, i might have to vote 100 times.

Interesting thread -- basic takeaway is Trump was jealous of the positive press Milley was getting and kept the documents to attack him. So Trump effs himself yet again because he is a child.
