Exactly.  It's handing Ukraine to Russia.  It's what the MAGA's want.

Trump’s elite units have descended on Florida. All they need is an order.

So Trump, who claims the charges against him are politically-motivated, says he will weaponize the DOJ to go after a political opponent. Got it.

Trumplicans: "Russia was a hoax!"

Also..

Anybody on here that was old enough to remember when ish was going down with Nixon?

What was the reaction on the right? We’re they as dumb as they are now?

Which is exactly why this bishing and whining is so pathetic.  The most hardball, "tough guy", anything it takes POTUS we've ever had, crying like a baby cuz he's getting sliced by the other side of the blade.  Yes, you're damn right the whole thing is political, you lit the fire and can't take the heat.

I'm too young but I did listen to the slow burn podcast which walked through it.

Among the rank and file Republican voters there was still a fair bit of support for Nixon even towards the end.

Overall his approval rating dropped down into the 25% range, though that took a while. And among Republicans it was much higher. And even with that a good portion of Americans didn't think he should be impeached over it.

The difference between them and now is that when the hearings took place it changed views on whether it was politically motivated. Now Republicans/Trump supporters simply keep their heads buried in the sand and listen to idiots like Tucker in their echo chambers.

It really was the leadership that stood up to him that made him resign.

Pols now are so afraid that taking a principled stand will end with them getting primaries that they won't do it. Whether it's a lack of guts, or it's Trump's unique hold on a particularly loud and violent plurality, the result is the same.

I am. The GOP stood by the president, until the tapes came out. The first Repub to say he would vote to impeach happened just a couple of weeks before the impeachment began. Goldwater had been very pro-Nixon, but even he had the balls to criticize Nixon publicly.

Today those who speak out against Trump are few and far between, and those who speak, defend the POS.

Barry Goldwater and several senators went to Nixon and told him they would not support him and would vote to remove him to office forcing him to resign. However, Nixon didn't have Fox news and Twitter.

I believe I've seen that Watergate as an event contributed heavily to the creation of Fox News.

Roger Ailes had long sought a "conservative media outlet". Watergate to him was a huge example of why.

That would give Republicans a place where "the thinking is done for [viewers]" (this is a near verbatim quote from a Nixon aide). They viewed the average citizen as pretty lazy, and if they could craft the story on their own network, motivated reasoning would do the rest.

Was it immediate or did it take a few weeks for them to coalesce? I get the impression that the GOP back then may have been largely partisan but still tethered to reality and behaved like adults. It just feels like we've been through this so many times with Trump and the modern day GOP, and if they didn't take a stand on the night of Jan 6th, then they're just not going to do it over some documents he refused to give back.

He still can't find a lawyer, gee wonder why?

Donald Trump Trump finds no new lawyers in time for Mar-a-Lago documents arraignment

Trump and his legal team spent the afternoon before his arraignment interviewing potential lawyers but the interviews did not result in any joining the team in time for Trump’s initial court appearance scheduled for 3pm ET on Tuesday after several attorneys declined to take him as a client.

Trump has also seemingly been unable to find a specialist national security lawyer, eligible to possess a security clearance, to help him navigate the Espionage Act charges.

Part of the problem of recruiting new lawyers has been Trump’s reputation for being a notoriously difficult client who has a record of declining legal advice and seeking to have his lawyers act as attack dogs or political aides rather than attorneys bound by ethics rules, people close to the process said.

The other concern for the top lawyers in Florida being contacted by Trump’s advisers has been the perceived reputational damage that could come from defending the former president, the people said, not just because of his politics but also because of the strength of the indictment, which could potentially lead to years in prison

He has the right to a public defender.  He should go that route.

Damn if he wasn't right. A whole generation after Reagan killed the Fairness Doctrine, we have a whole slew of lazy people living in an altered reality crafted by Ailes and friends.

Oh so now he's saying they were planted....and calling Jack Smith radical right.  How can people still defend this turd

Trump now claims classified documents were ‘planted’ in Mar-a-Lago boxes in wild arraignment morning rant

"This is the Thug, overturned consistently and unanimously in big cases, that Biden and his CORRUPT Injustice Department stuck on me. He’s a Radical Right Lunatic and Trump Hater, as are all his friends and family, who probably ‘planted’ information in the ‘boxes’ given to them. They taint everything that they touch, including our Country, which is rapidly going to HELL!” Mr Trump wrote on Tuesday morning.

I have no idea why anyone defends him. Trump is only loyal to his own money and power. He will turn on you the moment it gives him any upper hand. Cozying up to this guy isn't going to get you any of his power, money, or fame.

Sadly there are people that will vote only republican or democrat regardless of who it is just because they don't want the other side winning

I mean one side is offering up a guy who hoards classified material and refuses to give it up so.....there's that.

I'm not getting into a which side is worst. I was just saying there are people who will only vote for their side

But prior to that happening they did so there's that.  It's sad when neither side has a decent candidate and it's more about voting against someone instead of voting for someone.  Just because one side is less bad than the other doesn't mean there's a good option.

Oh? Who else has refused to give classified material back for months after it was requested back?
